Alternatives to garter/bouquet toss

Ivy, on August 12, 2017 at 6:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Does anyone have alternative ideas for the garter and bouquet toss? My FH doesn't have any single friends. And I only have 2-3 single female guests out of a 100. I don't want to put them on the spot. Also, when I attended weddings as a single, I hated that part so I wouldn't want to put anyone through that!

Any ideas though? There are 14-18 kids ranging from 3-11yo attending

I don't think you need a replacement activity. Just keep the party going with dancing!

I agree with WED18. We are not doing either, and instead will just keep the dancing going!

@susanK I agree! It's an Ewww for me too!

I googled for alternatives and one forum mentioned teddy bear toss. We have 14-18 kids coming to the wedding. I was thinking of buying a teddy bear bride dress and doing a teddy bear toss.

And a toy football with a bow tie around it to replace the garter toss.

Has anyone ever done that? His and my family are not dancing people lol

Anniversary dance or skip it is my vote - I'm not doing either one, I'm playing the "shoe game" instead

We are skipping both. I had not considered replacing them with anything. We are "older" and have been together longer than many of our guests so no anniversary dance either for us.

Just don't do them. I'm doing a bouquet toss, but FH doesn't want to do a garter toss. The only other thing I've seen that isn't kitschy is the anniversary dance.

We skipped both. I've never seen a garter toss. The last bouquet toss was about 5 years ago and no one went out on the dance floor to catch it.

We, and our social circle, don't invite kids to the wedding, so we don't have to figure out ways to entertain them.

We've been to weddings with the anniversary dance and it takes a good chunk of time. Everyone knows that one set of grandparents will win it. Young couples don't bother to participate. I gave my bouquet to my grandmother. She put the longer stems in the vase on my grandfather's grave. She kept the shorter stems and dried them and still has them.

I would just skip it. Or ask some of your single friends if they would participate and make your decision from there.

When it was time to toss my bouquet I instead presented it to H Grandma who had just celebrated her 65 wedding anniversary. She was completely shocked and everyone thought it was awesome. We did the garter toss so no ideas there. There were only 6 guys up there but it was still fun and only took a minute.

I'm in the same situation and I was at my cousins wedding where they did a dance with all the married couples and the DJ would say couples married after so many years to get off and the couple lasting the longest got the "throw" bouquet it was super cute and so sweet.

Or let all the girls get out there, tie a $5 bill to the bouquet and toss it away. Idk. Just a thought lol
