Alternatives to Cake Cutting

on March 18, 2018 at 9:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
So, neither my FH or I like cake. We don't eat cake. Well, unless it's an ice cream cake, but that's different. We planned to do a cupcake assortment as well as a cookie bar for guests. However, we're getting backlash from both sides of the family. They are okay with the cupcakes and cookies. However, they keep saying we need a small cake so that we can do the traditional cake cutting. This doesn't make sense to me. I understand the tradition, but I can't imagine spending money for a cake that neither of us are going to eat. It will just go to waste.

So, do you guys have alternative ideas that could replace the traditional cake cutting?

You can do cupcakes and cookies but have one small 5-6” cake to cut.

Why not do a bigger cookie decorated for your wedding and cut that?

Could you do a small ice cream cake for cutting and for you two to enjoy? Possibly just bring it out shortly before you cut. Or you can feed each other a bite of a cupcake or something. You could also save the rest of the ice cream cake to enjoy at home for the two of you.

I think whatever you cut has to be available to guests; so I wouldn't cut an ice cream cake unless there was enough to share.

I agree with maybe a cupcake or cookie.

Can you just cut a cupcake? To appease mom and then you don't have to get another dessert.

We're thinking of having ice cream cake, because its what we like.

I don't see anything wrong with you not doing the cake cutting if you don't want to. You will have enough photo ops throughout the night. I say don't have one if you don't want one. After all, it's your wedding.

If its not spending more money you are concerned most with, you could ask a friend or family member to make a small cake. My sister has made several for friends weddings who didnt have the funds for a cake and they turned out looking and tasting great! Or another wedding I attended, the couple got thier cake from walmart bakery and it was VERY affordable

A giant cookie would be fun to cut. If not you could always do pie or a cheesecake but you really should have that to offer to your guests also if you choose one of them.

Is a dessert cutting important to you? If not, don't worry about it. I'm having donuts. My FH and I are going to feed each other a bite of a donut. Unless you're dreaming of wedding photos showing you and your FH cutting a dessert together, I wouldn't even worry about it.

I don't understand why people say you NEED to cut anything? You don't NEED to do anything at your wedding that you don't want to do just because it's tradition? We are having a small cake but only because I wanted a cute cake topper, we are having cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc for our guest.

If you like cheese you could go with a cheese cake... Then you have an evening snack for your guests!
