Alternatives to Awkward Garter Toss

Katie , on May 25, 2017 at 4:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

The tradition of the groom taking off the garter in front of all of our family has always creeped my FH and I out. I'm still wanting to do a bouquet toss, since that's more G rated IMO. Are there fun alternatives to the garter toss so there's some balance on the activity? If not, we'll make do with just the bouquet toss and move along, this is not a major focus of the events for us. Thanks!!

We are simply not doing one. We are still doing the bouquet toss and I don't think most people will notice or care that much.. it creeped me out to and the more I looked into the history behind it the more it solidified my stance on not doing it.

Just don't do one. No one will miss it and you don't need a balance of activities.

Eh, I'd just do the bouquet toss and move on - no need to replace it with anything

Skipping both. Not paying an additional $50+ for a bouquet to throw at someone.

We will not be doing the bouquet and garter toss as well. In lieu of that we will be doing the anniversary dance and the newly wed shoe game. The longest couple married out on the dance floor will get the bouquet. And for the shoe game, the newlyweds sit back to back with each others shoe as well as their own. The DJ will ask a short list of questions like who the better cook or driver is. If spouse #1 thinks it's them they will put their own shoe up, but if they think it is their spouse, they will put up spouse #2 shoe.

We're not doing that or the bouquet toss. Just keeping it easy

We've been invited to about 5 weddings a year, for the past 5 years, and I've never seen one tossed. My parents didn't toss anything and they were married in the late 1970s.

The last time I saw the anniversary dance, all the younger couples headed to the bar, bathrooms, or outside to smoke. Everyone knew the groom's grandparents would get it; they should have just given it to them.

P.S. In my family/social circle, games are reserved for showers.

I only have married men and my brother coming to my wedding. Would it be weird to do the garter removal without a toss?
