Alternatives to a Head Table

rdlb, on May 29, 2013 at 11:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Has anyone done anything other than a head table? or been to a wedding without a head table? FH and I aren't sure if its for us, but also aren't sure what else we might do.

We're debating just doing a sweetheart table instead of the big table for everyone; not sue yet.

We're doing a sort of family style head table. I want my bridal party to be able to sit with their guests, and FH and I don't want to be all alone at a sweetheart table, so we're having a half sweetheart with two 6-foot banquet tables (it'll look like a T).

This way our bridal party can enjoy dinner with their significant others and children, and FH will get to enjoy each other and our friends. We'll be surrounded by our family too, as the head table will go down the center of the room.

You can always have just a sweetheart table and put your bridal party at regular guest tables, we just didn't like the idea of being off on our own and in the spotlight for dinner.

A popular option right now is the sweetheart table, where it's just you and FH.

My FH nixed that though. So we are doing a 'captain's table' It is a large rectangular table where us, the BP, and their guests sit, on all sides. The two 'seats' directly across from the bride/groom are left open so everyone can still see them.

I've also seen a variation, where there are two chairs left open in front of the bride and groom, where people go to them to chat, instead of you making the rounds during dinner. You can place a sign to indicate that people can come over, I've seen it on pinterest Smiley smile

Kristn - I like the idea of have a T shaped table, surrounded by family & friends. Do you have a photo of what you are thinking?

We aren't too keen on being on display either.
