Alternative to father-daughter dance

Christine , on June 20, 2016 at 11:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

My father has two bad hips and two bad knees and uses a cane for support. On top of that he has myasthenia gravis so that impacts his mobility as well. Needless to say dancing is not something he will be doing at my wedding. I have a song I would have danced to with him and my mom says he will try to get there because it's for me, but I do not want to even give him the option, i would rather do something else. With that said, I am the biggest daddy's girl and i still NEED to recognize my dad for everything he has done for me. I do not want a slideshow, but all the posts relating to this topic are flooded with slideshow suggestions. Does anyone else have any other ideas they care to share. Thanks in advance

What interests/activities has your Dad shared with you? Is there something you could demonstrate (like making a basket?) or could show (do a short scene from a movie or tv show he exposed you to, like Monty Python ?)

Instead of dancing, you could have the song played and dedicated to your father and just sit and enjoy the music together just the two of you, but keep the dancefloor open. Or you could also make a small toast in honor of him

Hey Steffany, congrats on your wedding, its just around the corner ! and thank you for your suggestion. My dad has always been a hard worker sometimes working two or three jobs at a time, our strong bond really comes from our talks because he didn't have much time for hobbies. He is my best friend. That's weird I know lol but I can talk to my dad about almost anything and know he will be 100% honest. I guess Angela's suggestion would probably work best. And congrats Angela! I am just afraid I will break down crying in the middle of it. My eyes are getting watery just thinking about what I could say.

Christine - If it's too emotoinal to make a toast, you could always write him a nice letter/card and hand it to him while the song plays (and keep the dancefloor open). Then it's really more of a private moment for the two of you.

    Best wishes!
