Alternative to a Father Daughter Dance

Ashley, on October 31, 2016 at 4:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My Dad and I are trying to come up with an alternative to the Father/Daughter dance, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas... My dad had a disease that essentially killed 80% of the muscles and nerves in his legs, and he is very unsteady, and he is very nervous about falling in front of 250+ people... While it breaks my heart that I might not be able to dance with my dad on my wedding day, I want to make sure that he is comfortable as well... Wondering if anyone has any other ideas for something really cool that we could do together.. The wedding is under a large tent in their backyard, but we could do something outside if it was neat.. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

My FH's cousin and her dad played a song together on the guitar. If you two are musical, that could be really cute! Is there something that you can both do that is a creative outlet?

If you're going to have kids at your wedding, you could have a Father/Daughter dance for all the fathers and daughters there in honor of you and your dad's love.

Perhaps read short letters to each other? But there are lots of people who dance in wheelchairs. Look it up on YouTube! If he's still not sure, get a couple lessons together at a local ballroom studio.

Could you do a very, very short dance? Maybe just the chorus of the song you have in mind? That way he's not on his feet as long. I have no idea if even that is doable, I'm just throwing it out there. Maybe a consult with his doctor would help you brainstorm some options. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's health issues. I'm sure you'll find a solution that will be very special for both of you.

Maybe just a one song slide show of you and your dad through the years? That way it isn't a 30 minute beating for your guest, but still honoring that relationship...
