Super September 2010

Alternative Style

\m/ ^ ^ \m/, on June 17, 2010 at 12:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

So my FH & I are avid listeners of alternative, rock, metal, etc. But our families - complete opposite. So for the wedding I started picking songs "they" would prefer to hear. Upon my Dad learning this he said, "No. Play what you want. It's your wedding. All of us old farts will get over it." So, with having my Dad's approval, which is rare!, we have started our search of songs. Our Recessional is AC/DC's "Highway to Hell." & the task at hand now is to find a song for when we re-enter the building after doing pix outside, I was thinking Atreyu - "When two are one." If you haven't listened, or this isn't your type of music, I recommend you YouTube it (I'll actuall post it after there!! I really like it but my question is this TOO hard??!! I mean, our first dance is to "I'd come for you" by Nickelback, so that's nothing. But we've got a list of songs that much be played by Killswitch Engage, Five Finger Death Punch, Distrubed, Rob Zombie, Hollywood Undead, you get the idea. (cont'd)

This is the video. It's loud, so you may want to turn your speakers down.

Knowing that we live an alternative lifestyle & this is our type of music would it still be too much as an entrance song?

Nope! We used "enter sandman" and no one thought that was too loud. It should be something that sets the tone for the rest of the night, and something that suits the two of you. If you are using loud songs in the ceremony too, I don't think it will shock anyone. Go for it!

I actually like it. At first I didn't but then got into it Smiley smile I'd use it... to be perfectly honest most of your guests will be standing & clapping thus prob won't hear exactly how hard metal it is. Also, the DJ will prob only place a small portion since the re-entrance doesn't take that long. Anyway, I like it, it's your wedding... use it :-D

I actually have to edit the song myself. I am doing the DJ portion of it, loading the songs to disc and a friend is playing them. I don't have the luxury of someone mixing it for me.. so at rehearsal we have to time everything perfectly so that I can fix all of the songs.. Errr.. doesn't sound fun but so far the other songs are breezy. Hehe. Our Recessional is AC/DC, the songs before that for the ceremony right now are actually "softer" tones but we've thought about looking into some of the heavier bands for some of their softer tones to replace DJ Sammy & Mandy Moore LOL. Those came in from my teen days Smiley smile Thanks for the comments I'll keep checking back Smiley smile

I love ALL the bands you listed, and then some! This is a problem that my fiance & I are having as well. Our entrance to the reception is For Whom The Bells Toll (Metallica) and we're using Highway to Hell as well sometime during the ceremony (though it might be played on the harp)

We like a lot of heavier music. I like a few other things, but FS hates them all, though I'm hoping he will tolerate some of them for me since we can't be 'head banging' the entire reception lol. I know his gma is going to flip her lid but oh well. It is OUR wedding, and I will do my best to play universal music, but for some songs we aren't going to budge!

Surprisingly, my metalhead FH has nixed all of my more \m/ musical suggestions. However, we're going to have our first dance to a song by Pain of Salvation. Still trying to hold out for a Nightwish song (or Kamelot or Epica - both use awesome instrumentals for intro tracks to their albums) for our reception entrance.

I'm having a similar issue, so far our first dance song is Til We Die by Slipknot, my aisle song is Nymphetamine the Scorched Earth Orchestra version, the fasther/daughter dance song is an acoustic version of My Hero by Foo Fighters and we're using Apocalyptica for most of our dinner music. But we found a way to find middle ground with the rest of the music by doing alot of classic rock songs. I can't wait to see how it all plays out the day of. More power to you, glad to know there's lots of us metal chicks out here lol

I didn't think I'd get so much support I am freakin excited now!!!

I remember that in middle school my dad wouldn't let me listen to this kind of music. LOL. So for him to step up and say, "Play what you want." I was just like, "Awwww, Daddy!!!".

I had originally thought about "Changed" by Ozzy & Kelly Osbourn for our father/daughter dance. But when I told him I had chosen "I loved her first." he agreed with this watery look in his eyes. So I already know that we'll both be crying during our father/daughter dance.

Thanks guys!!! \m/^-^\m/ All hail to the metal queens. HAHA.

Here is one from a vendor and someone a little older...At our wedding we had a sing a long to Straight to Hell by the Clash...old school

stuff...the older folks sat around the edges of the room trying to figure out what had possessed the rest of us. It is still talked about by all of our friends - 10 years later.

Your wedding is about you and you should make sure you don't cave in to the wishes of everyone else. Otherwise you will be totally miserable!

Looking forward to hearing about your wedding after you have an awesome time at your reception.

    Jen

I found "Vitamin String Quartet" which is a group tha does tribute albums to rock and pop performed by a string quartet. I LOVED it when I heard them, I thought it would be funny to have beautiful violin music and then the metal heads would be like...wait a minute!!! I know this song!
