Alternating Centerpieces?

auberginequeen, on August 4, 2016 at 6:31 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

I've posted here before that I want to do those big ostrich feather centerpieces, I knew going in they were expensive but now something has come up that makes me want to spend a bit less. I know lots of people do mixed centerpieces, but I have a small wedding. I'm looking at about 8 tables most likely. Would it look weird to have only half of those the big feather centerpieces? Maybe I could make the other half the wine bottle with only a couple feathers? Any other suggestions? I can do my original idea still if it comes down to it, but I want to look at other options. I don't really want to get rid of the feathers because I feel like it would mess up so much of the rest of what I've planned.

I have a lot of art deco elements and my colors are navy, ivory, and gold. If I were going to switch to flowers I wouldn't even do those colors so I really don't want to do that!!

Like maybe half of each of these pictures only the wine bottle with just 1 or a few feathers?

Suggestions?

I am also doing an art deco theme and I also am doing some larger centerpieces. Because of what you mentioned, I'm also mixing them up.

My plan is to have the larger centerpieces on the outside tables, and then anything in the center and at the "head" table will be lower -- dollar store vases with natural touch calla lilies in them and votive candles. It's not just cost you have to consider, line of sight is important for your guests as well! Those giant centerpieces are hard to see past.

We're having about the same number of tables and are mixing up the centerpieces. Some will be lanterns, some old wooden boxes and a few carved out pumpkins. I think as long as they have some connecting elements to tie them together (and about the same size) you should be fine.

I actually think it looks weirder if all of the centerpieces do match perfectly.

I think it's fine to do half and half. But if you're going to do some full feathers and some wine bottle, I wouldn't use the feathers in the wine bottle. Then it's going to look like what it is - that you didn't want to/couldn't afford to shell out for enough feathers. Can you do flowers in the wine bottles instead?

I like the look of varying centerpieces! I did a mix of high and low for my wedding reception.

@Flighty Flutist, hmmm that's a good point. I was thinking of doing them on top of some books with pearls draping over to add interest, but idk. I could probably do some flowers but I'm not sure what would look good. I have a florist for just my bridal party stuff and gazebo piece right now.

EDIT: What if I did the short ones with peacock feathers?? I had also been considering adding some peacock feathers to the big ones just because I like them, but maybe just do them in the small ones instead??

Not a huge fan of the wine bottle compared to the other feather centerpiece. I think doing something completely different would look more put together.

Edit: I think using the feather center piece and then alternate with one that is completly different will look better than the wine bottles)

Have you though of doing a large bowl and filling it with gold colored glass and adding pearls and tea candles?

(had a hard time finding the exact picture i'm thinking of, not exactly but you get the picture)

You can order the feathers on eBay for way cheaper and make them. I did it for my brothers 30th birthday. You just need a small piece of styrofoam.

We had 3 different centerpieces for 30 tables. I like alternating the centerpieces.

I'm mixing up my centerpieces. So far everyone I've asked likes it. Go for it!

ETA: Judging by your avatar, you definitely look like the feathers match your personality! love it!

We did 2 different centerpieces and it looked beautiful. We did tall silver candelabras with five 3 inch pillars and alternated with 3 cylinders with clear pebbles with floating candles and flowers submerged. I was surprised at how great it looked!

I think if you did completely different feathers for the wine bottles, that would be better. I love your decor ideas, by the way. :-)

I'm doing floating candles on half my tables, and flowers-in mason jars on the other half. I am putting candles/flowers on top of square mirrors, and scattering these cool glass hearts my MOH found on eBay. You can engrave them with your names, and wedding date.
