Altering the him of my lace wedding dress

Olivia , on September 25, 2016 at 10:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I got my dress in and it's 6 inches to long! My dress has a lot of lace and I don't see how the seamstress will alter my dress without screwing it up! I'm stressing because this dress was not cheap. Has anyone got a lace dress him taken up 5-6 inches and it look good. Do you have before and after pics of the dress? Below is what my dress looks like.

A good seamstress should be able to HEM any style of dress without any issues

And since your dress doesn't have a very distinct design right around the edge, it should be relatively easy for them to hem your dress

Like Brooke said, a good seamstress can perform pretty much any alteration. They hem probably 99% of every dress that walks through their doors. Do you know how many lace dresses they have their hands on? I'm sure it's a lot. Just do your homework before hand. You'll be fine.

Also, it's normal to have doubts. I did and I took my dress to a woman I had no doubt had the ability. It still made me nervous to visualize someone deconstructing my dress. It will be fine.

I had a chantilly lace gown and had to hem the bottom. If you have a scalloped hem, the seamstress will remove it, as well as excess fabric and reattach. Nothing to stress about.

My French lace dress was very long, too. My seamstress had no trouble with alterations.

Fugettabout it Smiley smile You'll be just fine. Take it to an experienced (in wedding gowns!) seamstress and ask her to explain how she will hem the dress. Truly professional alterationists have methods of working around the issues so that your dress doesn't look altered, but it does feel altered. It would be a big mistake to leave your gown long and trip over it the entire time. Do pick your shoes before you take it to get fitted and decide whether or not you'll wear a slip. Also, I recommend a pretty french bustle for this style of gown Smiley smile
