Altering strapless sweetheart dress to halter

Danielle, on February 17, 2018 at 4:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Despite my original vision, I ended up falling in love with a strapless dress. I would be absolutely fine keeping it the way it is, but I can’t help but love the way a halter dress looks. Has anyone altered their sweetheart strapless dress to be a halter? How much did this cost? Were you happy with the result?

I LOVE your dress the way it is ... that’s exactly what I had in mind for a dress, ultimately I fell in love with something with straps though... I wouldn’t touch it, but that’s just my personal opinion because I am the type of person who always fears the worst and would think I would regret it !

I love both of those pictures! You're best off talking to a seamstress. The main issue would most likely be matching lace patterns that way it is not an obvious alteration.

I have a feeling this will be pretty costly- I would take it to a seamstress and get a quote. Before you go I would pick a budget. I would look on yelp and they allow you to message multiple places so maybe you can send the photos and get a quote without having to bring it in (that is what I did with my veil).

Hi- I am doing this! I love how it looks! Here’s my alterations pics- still in progress though! I purchased a belt which they are attaching as my halter strap.

The belt was expensive ($200 ugh) but the alterations are still in progress, so I am unsure how much it will cost. I don’t think it will be much though to just attach straps.

Sorry OP! I just saw your second picture- pretty different from what I did. I think it’s definitely doable but I agree with PPs about discussing with a seamstress to see cost. You may have to order a piece or a custom item to match your dress- that may be the challenge there. I love the way your inspo picture looks though! Good luck!

Talk with a seamstress to see what she can do and what the cost will be. She may have some suggestions!

If your bridal salon doesn’t do alterations, they should have a list of recommendations that other brides have used. Matching the lace will be difficult but one idea is to do a sheer illusion neckline going up in the same way as the other dress you showed.
