Altering dress from aline to fit and flare

venitza, on April 3, 2019 at 12:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I need help!!!!! I bought my dress last year and loved it. Now getting closer to the wedding (11/8/19) i decided i wanted to lose weight dress was bought size 20 and it wouldnt zip all the way but now it zips buttons with no problem now the bust is too big (bust line is not so sweetheart now that i have no boobs) fits like a ivory bag to me, and i so badly want a fit and flare. Has anyone or is anyone altering their dress so drastically? Can it be done? What will the cost be? Will i look good in a fit and flare (4’11 and chubby lol) I want to keep my dress but also dont want to look back and hate all my photos. Also my venue is very glitzy glam and my dress is just not up to par i feel.

They can adjust the neckline on it a bit for sure, and you can alter a Aline to become a fit and flare, though, as I’ve personally a lot of fit and flare eneving gowns, I went with a trumpet cut for my dress so I can move easier. I would suggest the same to you. But my suggestion is go into any store that sells evening gowns and try on the shapes and see what you like. However alterations to that extent may cost the same as a whole new dress.

Thats what im afraid of the cost of altering my current dress is going to cost more than a new one. I plan on trying on dresses again after a few more pounds come off and taking my current dress to see what they can do to maybe make me fall in love with it again.

I think you may need a new dress. You can’t easily convert an A-line to a fit & flare and make it look good. Well maybe it can be done but it might cost as much as a new one.

Congrats on losing weight! Consider selling your unaltered gown and getting one you love on your body. 💗

Yeah, taking it in is one thing, completely changing the silhouette is not going to be worth the hassle, cost, or worrying. Buying a new dress would be the better way to go.

Yep, if you want a different silhouette I'd look for another dress because the alterations would probably be more than the cost of the dress. I'd try to sell the current one to make back a little money and get to trying on new dresses! Good luck!

Agree!! Alterations of this sort, where I live, would be at least $ 1000.00.

Since you haven't had any alterations done yet, your dress will look and fit differently on you when that happens. It won't be hanging off you like an ivory bag because it will have been altered at that point. Just something to consider. It will fit you better and be more flattering when they take it in. Is that something you'd be open to? Or do you just really want a whole new dress?

ETA: Adding a belt to your current dress might give it that "glitz" you are looking for.
