Altering an Alfred Angelo Dress?

Tasha-n-Adam, on January 6, 2014 at 1:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I bought a size 8 Alfred Angelo dress and fit in it perfectly. I'm now a bit heavier and it barely zips... I'm getting married in two months! Has anyone had any luck getting these altered a little bigger? like a whole size up? It doesn't seem like there's enough fabric for it. I'm FREAKING OUT!

Start eating healthier/excersize (you can do it!) when you can and try to take it to a tailor. They'll have a better idea how much it can be made bigger. Sometimes there's extra fabric in there that you don't know about in the seam allowances. Don't panic! Talk to a tailor first. If you have extra fabric they can also try to do something with that.

If you are going to have it altered, I suggest using the one at the store as they will have access to extra fabric and if not, they can order it. Have you considered changing the back from a zipper to a corset back? Most of the Alfred Angelo dresses can be altered to allow for a corset which will give you more "wiggle" room in. If you lose weight, you just tighten the laces and if you don't, you loosen the laces. Good luck!

I've been working my butt off trying to get the weight off... where it is tight is around the bust and back... which is the hardest part for me to shred! Smiley sad I will see what the seamstress says... The shop I bought it from closed, so I have no option there!

Aw that sucks Smiley sad I didn't buy from a bridal store either and had an adjustment made at a tailor and it worked out really well. If your dress is plain white it's probably not too difficult to find extra fabric, especially if it's a satin/chiffon etc.

Try to go to the next nearest AA store or give them a call. I know their seamstresses are only there on certain days of the week and don't usually show up on weekends. That's just usually their busy time, so alterations are usually on a week day (mine are on a Friday at the end of the month).

Cut out breads/pastas, potatoes, and sweets. I can almost guarantee that within 2 weeks you'll lose some of that weight.

I agree though with Amanda-Kiora, you need to let someone know ASAP so that arrangements can be made to get it altered/fitting correctly. The corset idea is great too, but you need to know how long it would take to get it back before your big day.
