Altering a mermaid/trumpet grown

I think you'd have to talk to a seamstress to get an idea of what would be possible. What did the bridal consultant at the shop say about this possiblity?

I think because of the construction of the "mermaid" part of the dress it's going to be difficult to make it look like a true sheath. They may be able to add some material to relax the hip area to flow more instead of come in but I'm struggling to see how it would actually look natural. I think it's easier to make a sheath dress a mermaid than the other way around.

Once you have the dress bring it to a seamstress, they will know for sure.

It would be easier to turn this dress into one with a pencil skirt rather than a sheath.
I'm not saying it can't be done but I'm not sure that you would be happy with the altered result. I would find a sheath dress with similar details and return/sell the dress you decided on.

I'd be removing the tulle under the skirt, and seeing if she can let it out where it comes in at your hips.. thats the best I've got

It's probably cheaper to buy a sheath than to try and alter the silhouette.
