Altering a lace dress

Tricia , on April 20, 2012 at 7:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

Hey everyone,

Is there anyone who has altered/redesigned a lace dress made of Alencon Lace??? I just got my dress and am really disappointed. It's a lace halter that is way too big on top to the point where the lace on the halter extends into my armpits and looks too big on my 5 foot frame. the bottom half of dress is also big and would like it to be fitted. It is the smallest size and when I tried it on, they said it would be smaller on top when in reality it was not. The seamstress said they will have to cut the halter and reapply the edges. They also said they can easily take it in. I just do not like the way it fits and worried I might want to get a new dress! Any words of advice for my huge lace dress???

I have an all lace dress too and mine was altered with no problems.

Bridal seamstresses know how to remove the lace, do the alterations and re-set the lace. Don't worry!!!

I agree with Christine - you would be amazed with what can be done. I have done Bridal alterations for many years and what you are talking about doesn't sound like a problem.

Our "rule of thumb" was that a dress could be successfully taken in up to 4 sizes so don't worry.
