Have you tried on the dress?

Yeah, did you try it on? Some dresses have their own sizing chart.
But, generally dresses can only be taken in 2-4 sizes without ruining it. Your best option is going to be, try in the dress, get pictures of the size difference, and go to different tailors in your area and see their takes on it.

I have not tried it on... in fact, I haven’t tried on any wedding dresses. I just love this one and saw it online and wanted to buy it if it was possible to alter without ruining the lace details

Talk to a seamstress before you buy. They will tell you if it can be done or not. Many dresses cannot be altered more than a few sizes down without making it a different type of dress.

I assume this might be through a resale site or page? Have you tried going to the designer's website & finding the exact dress so you could google the dress name to find either a shop that sells it or another reseller that has it closer to your size? If not I'd recommend trying that. I went to their site and entered in the key words you have here and it narrowed them down quite a lot so as long as its still in production it should show up (I probably looked right at it and didn't even realize, thats how well it narrowed it down)

I ended up hating the way dresses I tried on that I thought would be my style and were beautiful on the hanger. The dress I purchased was an entirely different silhouette I thought would look terrible with my figure.

See if maybe a store near you sells that dress or at least that designer and try to try on a similar dress and see how it fits and such. I'm assuming the website you're looking at doesn't allow returns.
