Alterations

Hello,

How soon should someone take their dress in for alterations? My wedding is 10/2/2021.
Thank you in advance 💕

I went for my first fitting 10/1/20 my wedding is in July if 21... if you have a lot you need to change, a dress with May layers or an intricate bustle it’s always good to start earlier as their are a lot more brides this year.

I didn't need much done so I took mine in about a 1.5 months before the wedding

Talk to your seamstress, but I would say not much more than 2 months before your big day. Different tailors have different schedules, but if you begin alterations too soon, you risk your body changing or you changing your mind about some details like footwear.

Around the 2 month mark. Basically you have 3 major dress fittings. Once you have your first 1 they’ll set up the rest of your appointments.

I needed quite a bit done to my dress and went on the recommendation of the bridal shop, which also did my alterations. We got married in October, and I had my first alterations appointment in (late) June.

Granted, the shop I took my dress to does a lot of alterations work and books up quickly. I called to make my June appointment in February.

Just found my seamstress... please look around before committing. My previous seamstress received a slew of negative reviews with horrifying pictures recently... thankfully I did not finalize a first fitting! The new seamstress wants to start in April for our July wedding. The dress will be taken in, hemmed, the off shoulder sleeve fixed, bustled, with a butt cup. She said it would take two fittings (three if a lot of alterations are needed).

I would contact a seamstress right away. With all of the postponed weddings they are very busy. My daughter is getting married on the same day as you and she has her second fitting in early April.

    It all depends!
If you need major alterations then bring it in 3-6 months beforehand. I would talk to your seamstress to discuss what is needed to be done and how long it would take them (especially if they are busy). For any minor alterations then bring it in 1-3 months before.
Also! If you plan on losing weight or just so happen to then take this into consideration a well. Back when I had to get my dress ready for my 18th birthday I had to bring it in for a 3rd time because I lost weight from all the dance practices and when I got super sick at one point.

And please make sure to do your research! I would hate for you to find someone to only ruin your beautiful wedding dress!

I was told about 2 - 3 months, but again depends on how much alterations you think you'd need to get done.
