Alterations

Are you all getting your alterations done at the same place you purchased your dress from? The bridal shop I purchased my dress from requires a $200 deposit to book the appointment that goes towards the cost of the alterations but that go me thinking about what the final cost is gonna be!

I’m in South Jersey. 20-30 minutes from Delaware and all the Philly bridges. You can check out my FB page, Periwinkle Alterations by Dee. ( my website is currently under construction) I provide quality work at very reasonable prices. I also make many custom wedding accessories such as, ring bearer pillows, garters, bow and regular ties and many more items. Have an idea? Just ask! Text me or send a FB message! I’m happy to help.

    Rosie,

What happened with the sleeves that were added? Was there a design or material that just did not work out?

They were fine when she first made, them, but when she properly lined the sleeves, the fabric was quite heavy and so it kept pulling down off the shoulder straps. She tried to put those pieces of rubber (like on a strapless bra) on the underside of the straps that the sleeves were sewn into, to get them to stay put, but they simply wouldn't. They kept sliding down. We agreed that it looked silly that way and ended up removing them, which was fine in the end, since our postponed wedding date was much warmer than our original date, and I didn't need them!

I loved the look of them, but (as is often the case) it dress wasn't designed to have sleeves and wasn't really properly set up to have them added.

    Rosie,

Thanks for the info. It is good to have some lessons learned. Glad it worked out right after all.

You're so welcome! Thankfully, I was aware from the beginning it might be difficult to add sleeves, so I wasn't too disappointed, but unfortunately I do think that bridal consultants selling the dresses (who aren't alterations people, and don't sew themselves) promise all sorts of things to get a sale, some of which would be impossible without actual magic, haha! I'd always strongly advise someone to only buy a dress if they are happy to accept it exactly how it is, just in case.

It is especially bad if the stylists don't share how much the changes may cost.
