Just Said Yes January 2022

Alterations

on December 27, 2021 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Hi guys! Before I start getting too worried about my dress alterations I wanted to check here to see if this timeline is normal. So I had my first fitting on October 23rd. My dress needs to be hemmed quite a bit and taken in otherwise no major adjustments. It is now 12 days before my January 8th wedding and have not gotten a call back that the alterations are complete. I called the seamstress back in the beginning of December to see if I could get an update and she said she is working on it. I called her again mid December to see when it will be expected to be done and she told me not to worry and she was still working on it. I don’t want to be a nuisance but I’m starting to worry that if there are any additional alterations that need to be done after I try the dress on again that it won’t be done in time. Is this timeline normal? Thanks in advance! Smiley smile

I forgot to add, when I last spoke with her she also said “I’ll call you if I need you to come try it on again”. I thought a second fitting was standard??

From personal experience I had at least a alteration apt pretty much each week before the wedding from 3 weeks prior. Hopefully everything is perfect when you pick it up!

My seamstress said it’ll take 3 weeks for my alterations but as she worked on it she had to push it back another week. I had lace appliqués and beadings that had to be done by hand.
Does your dress have a ton of details that need to be worked on? Or they extremely booked? Either way let them know the absolute last day you need your dress.

Definitely ask her again! She's probably very used to working with brides and nervous customers. Don't worry about being a nuisance. If she has worked in the industry for any good length of time, she knows how long things take her and what fittings she needs. Ask her what the estimated finish will be.
Source: my fmil is a seamstress and I get to hear plenty of stories from her about nervous customers. It's more normal than you think. Smiley winking

I was told 3 to 4 weeks for alterations to be completed. I think every store may have a different timeliness depending on how busy they are but I'd say keep on top of them.

And yes I thought 2 fittings was standard too, lol.

I've already had more than 2 fittings, but I am having quite a few things done, including having sleeves added and coloured tulle under the skirt. I have also booked all my appointments in up to the date I pick the dress up before the wedding.

Is your next appointment scheduled to either pick up the dress or have it altered further? I think it's odd if she hasn't booked you in for a time to collect it and been clear about when it can be picked up.
