How far in advance did you find someone to do your alterations?

I started my alterations in August for my October wedding. My final fitting was 2 weeks before my wedding.

My alternations were done by the same space that I bought my dress from. I followed their normal schedule for alternations. My first appointment was about 4 months prior to the wedding.

My wedding is in April and I dropped my dress off for alterations last week. The seamstress stated that the dress would be available for pick up Jan 11 (not must work needed to be done just making hips area a bit bigger). I want to have enough time in case I needed more alterations.

The bridal shop I got my dress from recommended to start alterations 3-4 months out. (The owner is a seamstress and will be handling all the alterations for me.)
