Alterations.

Just got my back from my first fitting, my 7 point bustle came out to $280 and hemming is $500. I cannot believe alterations are close to $800!!!! I suppose the million layers in my skirt don’t help things. What did everyone else pay?

Very close to that. Nine point bustle and then were a good 500.

I've been quoted 600-750. My dress had a total of 10 layers but she's already removed 2. This includes hemming the length, bustle, removing the mesh neckline/back, and building up my straps.

Just had mine today as well! My hem would be $250, French bustle $165 (I think 3), and then they will be shortening the straps and bringing bust in. I do not have to pay for the hem because it was supposed to be ordered in the correct length, so am paying almost $400 for the rest

I paid about $305 total including tax for adjusting straps, taking in the waist, sewing in pushup bra cups, and a 3 point bustle.

I paid about $600. Its insane, even the girl doing the alterations said its sometimes very sad because girls will have a strict budget, purchase a dress and have to struggle to pay for alterations because they did not factor those cost into the dress.

Looking back, I wish I would've chosen a different dress that may not require as many alterations or maybe paid a seamstress to join me in looking for a dress to better determine cost. I was at David's Bridal and they have inhouse seamstress, but I honestly didn't feel comfortable with their skills since there are no reviews for each person and they really weren't able to give me a solid plan to fix some areas of the dress. I didn't stress about it and just paid the amount my seamstress charged because she had great reviews and was very straight forward on what she could do and could not do to the dress. I was happy with the outcome.

Mine was 466. First it was 348 and when i went, they added more stuff. In a way i was mad cause they did not let me know what they were doing ahead of time. My bustle was supposed to be 5 point bustle. When i get there to try on my dress, it turned out to be 12. It came out to 200 dollars totals. They are going to add more things to it. I am going to call tomorrow to make sure they call me to see if they can call me ahead of time. I would like to know if anything else will be done. I say you do the same. I fell its only fair. Some people forget we are not rich.

Geez, I didn’t get bustles because I didn’t like it, but for (I think) 8 bustles it would have been about $180. I got a few minor alterations like narrowing the sleeve at the wrist of the dress, tapering the waist to sit closer to my waist, and slightly widening the sleeve arm holes. All that was only $215. I found a local small business owner. She was fantastic and sweet.

Totally right about the David’s Bridal seamstress. I thought I would have them do it because it’d be cheaper (which it wouldn’t have been). But I bought my dress from a small business who is online, but since they were in my state and only a city away I drove to their place and got it on a super sale. But she warned me not to take it DB at all. And I love 😍😍😍😍 my dress and I couldn’t imagine if anything would’ve happened to it😖

I haven't gotten alterations just yet but I am worries because I have to have the hip area taken out on my dress. Has anyone else had to do this? Is it very expensive? I have detailed beading throughout the entire dress 🤦🏻‍♀️

OMGosh! I had NO IDEA this was the cost! I haven't had mine altered yet. My dress will need to be let out and hemmed. My mind is blown.

Is a bustle required if you have a train? I haven't had my alterations appointment yet

Nothing is truly “required” but if your train is long enough and doesn’t move well when you walk then they are suggested. Especially if there will be dancing and a lot of moving around. My train isn’t very big but it’s not really long but my circular (if that makes sense) and it has a lot of crinoline (the harder crunchy under layers) underneath so it moves with me pretty easily.

Oh okay makes sense! Thanks. My train isn't super long but I'm just wondering if I would need a bustle or hem . I know my sides need to be taken in , but I was unable to be told how much the charges would be until I attend the appointment. Just wanted to know if you're able to opt out of a bustle.

Oh okay yeah it just depends on how many bustles and what kind of bustle. I think there are two main kind, one over the top and the other underneath. My seamstress showed me what each looked like and held it in place with a safety pin. I wasn’t sure if I wanted it or not so she left it in there until I decided later. Hopefully you won’t have a pushy seamstress. Educating you is one thing but I don’t want to pay for something I don’t like 😩😂
Oh yeah, also some dresses have the loop underneath that you can put in your wrist which helps too.

Oh okay thanks! Yes that helps. I actually love my train Even though it's not super long. I just feel like because it's not too long and it's poofy, it would look weird. I want to go in there with an open mind , but I dont want to be pushed to pay for something I don't like or need. I do like the sound of having a loop on my wrist though! Thank you!
