Alterations

My dress arrived yesterday! (A whole month earlier than expected!) I’m going to schedule an appt to inspect and try it on but I know it will be a little small. My wedding isn’t until September 1, and since I’m slowly losing weight, I ordered a size down.

Im just wondering 1) how much you ended up paying for alterations and 2) how many alterations appts you ended up going to. 😊

My alterations were very pricey, however, I went to a woman who owns her own alterations boutique and specializes and works on only bridal gowns. I also live in an expensive part of the country and my dress is incredibly detailed and needed a lot of work. I paid her $975 to take off the entire cathedral train, hem 10+ layers of tulle, take in the hips, take in the waist, reconstruct some of the lace, sew the belt into the dress, take in and reconstruct the bust and straps and the boning, etc.. I have had two appointments so far. I actually have my final fitting today. Then she will keep it and store it for me (I am still 36 days out) and the week before she will steam it for me and I will go pick it up. I will try it on again at pick up and if anything needs adjusting she will do so on the spot.

I paid $495 for alterations. I had 7 or 8 appts but that is not the norm. I kept losing weight from stress so she kept having to take it in every single week.

I paid $300 and I had 2 appointments. My dress fit almost perfectly and the alterations were fairly simple. All it needed was a hem, a bustle, and to be taken in on the straps/back. It came with built in cups. My hem was also very simple since my dress had no lace edging, it was just tulle on the bottom of the skirt.

I paid $450 for hem, taking up the shoulders, taking in the sleeves, taking in the waist, adding cups and adding a bustle. I might have her take in the hips depending on how it fits at my next appt. I will probably have 3-4 appts total.

I paid around $550 at David's Bridal. They took in the sides, bodice, shoulders, I'm 4' 11" so we definitely had to shorten it and I added a bustle. I also had her fit my bra to the dress.
