Alterations

Anna, on June 17, 2020 at 1:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I just had my alterations appointment with DB. The appt went smoothly for COVID era, though somehow they were double booked and didn’t have my name. I guess that’s what I get for using the DB texting service, but she still got me back at the same time and helped us both out well.

I will say I was still shocked at the total price. The chest has 2 places to be taken in, the skirt hemmed and a bustle installed. The fact that my dress has layers (And different material at that) is likely the reason for high cost. But I needed 10 bustle points (5 for underskirt, 5 for the upper lace). I feel confident that it’s all worth it and that the price was comparable to what I would’ve paid a local seamstress. Photo from the last time I tried it on at Granny’s. Now to wait 5 weeks to go get it back (they were scheduling for 4 weeks out but I’ll be out of town then) Alterations 1

Make sure to double check the work when you get it back. It looks beautiful though! Mine was also pricey, but it has six layers of lace and a lot of complexity. Just be careful going back. One of my pre Covid appointments had like six women back there at the same time, and I know DB alterations has their moments.

Thanks. Yeah, there were 3 dressing rooms in the alterations area of my DB, and I think due to COVID they were trying to only have 1 person at a time, but even still we were fairly well spaced (the two of us there for alterations, obviously the seamstresses were less than 6ft from us, but were wearing masks and gloves). Everyone in the building wore masks.
But yeah I’ll be sure to check the work before leaving.

What was the total if you don’t mind me asking? That’s almost exactly what I need done to my dress; it also as a lace top layer.

Just over $300 with tax. Someone else in here shared DB’s alterations menu a week or so ago. They’re starting prices, like Bustles start at $50 and include 3 buttons, each additional point is another $7, but I also wonder if these prices vary by location, especially when you think about it, these services are priced more in regards to labor than to materials and I would imagine pay rates are much higher in some locations than others due to cost of living.

That’s not to bad. I got my dress from DB so I just figured I’d use them. Plus there’s hardly any wedding dress alterations places around me. I was/am hoping not to spend more then $200 on alterations.

There’s one professional seamstress in my town. My brother has used her for some of his nicer clothes, but I couldn’t get much off her website about prices for wedding dress alterations.
