Alterations

Cheryl, on September 11, 2019 at 7:32 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
I bought my wedding dress at DB back in March/April. I now have 6 months till our wedding! I've been sceptical about using DB for my alterations and just finding a seamstress in the town I live in. What did you all do? I've been Googleing DB alterations and it honestly scares me. Included are a few pics of my dress. I know it will need to be hemmed, taken in (I've gained a few lbs since I last had it in though). Not sure if I will have a bustle added in or not since I won't have it on very long. We are doing a small intimate wedding in Gatlinburg with just our family kinda like a modified elopement that's been planned haha.

I would prefer to use the same person I always go to for alterations. It seems like David’s Bridal, along with every other bridal store, is hit or miss with the alterations. I suggest you ask friends, family and coworkers to see where people have had good results around you. You also may get some good advice if you ask on Facebook (if you use it).

I used DB for alterations and my dress was done perfectly. The thing is, every DB has a their own seamstresses. So my review of the DB seamstress May be different from someone who used a DB seamstress in another area.

I was going to have alterations from DB, but they quoted me $150 for a simple hem. I found a local seamstress and she did the same thing for $70. So it's definitely worth looking into a local seamstress to save some money

I'm definitely going to shop around. I'd like to keep it local, since DB is over a hour away and I'd have to schedule fittings either on the weekends or late after work. We have a few very nice intimate undergarment places in town that does fittings/ordering of wedding undergarments and I think I'm going to use them since their prices are a bit cheaper than DB. Plus the ladies there are AMAZING! Super sweet and once they have your measurements they keep it on file in their system so there is no guessing.

I went to a different seamstress than DB, the pricing was a bit better - nothing crazy. But she was super close to me - like 8 mins drive & DB is like an hour. I went w/ convenience over most as I can do the fittings during lunch.

Yes!!! This is me to a T! I can easily take a bit longer lunch or go after work and not be there all afternoon. I've got names of 2 places that have very good reviews.

Yeah we have an hour lunch & my fittings are done in like 30 mins. It’s super easy. The DB by me only does it on certain Wednesday & its off a main/packed highway. Without traffic it would be an hour with traffic easily 2 hours. I just didn’t feel like dealing w/ that hassle.

I think they told me they only do alteration fittings on certain days as well. Definitely not able to take off work just for that.

I got my dress at DB on sale for $599 and ended up paying $550 in alterations with them as well. I had to have my dress taken in, hemmed, sleves taken in, and added a bussle that I now don't even need because I bought a second dress for the reception. The work was great and my dress was ready in 4 weeks like they said but it was so expensive

That's what I'm afraid of, I'm hoping I can visit some of the local shops soon and get rough estimates on pricing.

I found my seamstress on Thumbtack. Had great reviews, not too far away. Super inexpensive and done quick! I recommend Thumbtack to anyone looking to keep costs down.

My impression is that it’s mostly newer business people trying to build a business. But my seamstress was on there and has been doing alterations and custom gowns for 30+ years so I’m not sure.

I had just moved to the city so I didn't know of a good alterations person that I would trust with my dress. If I could do it again I would shop around

I was in the same position, but I ended up going to David's Bridal. The bustle they had to do was pretty complicated, and I didn't want to mess with getting it done somewhere else. I had to go back 4 times before they were done, but in the end it was perfect!

I had a great experience with the David Bridals by my house and their alteration department did an awesome job on my dress so far, I have my last fitting in a 2 weeks.
