Alterations??

Makeba, on August 25, 2022 at 5:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
I was quoted $600 for my alterations, got there today and it was $895! Really???? Disappointed with the level of integrity.

Were you quoted $600 when you bought the dress or when you were dropping it off for the alterations to be done?

She quoted me that at my last fitting, today is when she sprung the new price on me.

Did they have to make any additional changes beyond what you initially agreed on? That could change the price. Otherwise, do you have it in writing that they promised a price of $600?

Unfortunately I did not have a picture before the alterations. She said there were not many needed. Then today she said it was…totally a bait and switch move.

She might have started on the alterations and realized that it would take a lot more work than she initially thought (and therefore raising the cost), but then she should have reached out to you *before* continuing the work to make sure you were OK with the price increase. If you have the original price quote in writing, I would try to make the case for why she should honor the original price. If you don't have it in writing, unfortunately, I'm not sure if there's much you can do. Sorry that this happened! It's not really good practice on her part to increase the price without giving you advance notice.

Thank you, I agree. I think the right thing to do is consult a person before assessing a new cost. It’s nothing that I can do, however I will refer anyone to her salon.

I'm so sorry that happened to you it's like when you speak to 1 person then someone else come tell you something more money. It's the minute they hear wedding dress they shoot up the price. I hope that you find a better place that will treat you better. Or do you have to deal with that what did you decide to do

I agree and thank you for your response. I just want other brides to be aware. As we all know weddings are expensive. I think it’s a courtesy to inform a customer of those types of changes. I am glad to be done with them.

I actually picked up the dress yesterday so there’s nothing else I can do. My wedding is next month so my hands are tied.

She never wrote out what I needed, she said minor alterations. And said the price. So that was truly my fault being excited and new to this. However morally she knew that she was wrong.

She definitely gave me a different receipt each time. So if she had informed me, that would have been fine. It’s just bad practice on her part! I know better now. Wedding is in three weeks it’s all good.
