Alterations to early?

Emma, on June 24, 2020 at 9:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
I have my first alterations appointment on Saturday; June 27th. My wedding isn’t till October 3rd. Is this to early to have the appointment? I was thinking of calling and rescheduling. My biggest problem is I don’t have the undergarments I want for the wedding. My alterations are at davids bridal (that’s where I got my dress) they have the bra corset thing I want to get I just haven’t ordered it yet.

Other problem. My period is supposed to start on Thursday. I don’t really want to have my alterations during that week because of bloat.

I would reschedule until you have your undergarments you want, because that will affect the fit of the dress tremendously. Don’t forget to bring the shoes you want to wear too!

Thankfully The shoes should be here Thursday! I’m worried that I’m not giving enough time for the alterations if I reschedule.

I think it depends on how much needs to be done. If you are just getting it hemmed and taken in, you should be fine. The average timeline for alterations says 2-3 months prior to your wedding is the ideal window for fittings.

Okay! More then likely I’ll call and reschedule for 2 weeks later because if I order my undergarments now they will be here by then.

If you’re able to reschedule that would be best. I’d say no more than 8 weeks out from your wedding is best, because measurements can fluctuate. You’ll want to have your undergarments and shoes with you. Good luck!

Okay Thank you so much! I even thought when they set up that appointment that it was a little early. All I need is the dress taken in a little, hemmed and a bustle added.

You definitely need your undergarments (and shoes) to do your fitting! Don't go without them, but you should get those ASAP. The first fitting 3 months out is fairly normal. The length and the bustle which will take most of the time in alterations and that shouldn't change in a few months. Your final fitting they can do little tweaks on the fit.

My David’s wouldn’t let me schedule alterations more than 2 months before my wedding.
Honestly, you should be fine to go in any time up until August 1st. But I guess it also depends on what all you want/need done to your dress.

I just need it hemmed, taken in at the waist, and a bustle added.

Then you can totally put it off until after you have your undergarments and are past your period.
I wish they would have let me schedule during the summer.

I actually don't think its too early. Our wedding is October 25th and my 1st fitting is the 19th next month and 2 more after that. I believe I have 3 or 4 fittings total and its just to make sure the dress fits like a glove. Good luck!

I don't think it's too early. My wedding is October 10th and I'm having my first fitting July 25th. My seamstress said that I could have started now if I wanted to but I wanted to lose my last couple lbs first lol.

We are date twins! I scheduled an alterations appointment for July 7th just to get a quote for alterations, but they recommend that I not start the actual process until 2 months out from wedding day.

I got married October of last year and my first appointment was in June. You'll go back several times before they start working on your dress. Going now, without the undergarments, might actually help you decide what you want to purchase.

I went ahead and called them and told them why I was going to reschedule that they told me I can use the undergarments they have for when people try on dress! It’s going to help me decide if I actually want a petticoat or not without having to spend $80 first!
