Alterations Timeline

Mandi, on January 7, 2020 at 12:34 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I dropped my dress off to the alterations lady in... early October? I was super busy and shot her a msg mid-November. She told me she wouldn't be able to look at it til after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving came and went, and I had to deal with Christmas.

We are 81 days out. When does this lady want to see how long my arms are so she can add sleeves?!?
Is it too early to freak out or should I start emailing her?
I'd just really like to have my dress altered and back in my posession!

I would just call. She could be backed up or waiting for fabric to come in. Verbal conversation is always better than an email - those can get buried easily.

I agree with Diedre! I would be freaking out and would probably start calling other people and getting quotes and go pick up my dress and take it somewhere else if I couldn’t get a definitive timeline

Did you ask how long it would take for the alterations to compete? I went in around 80 days out for a quote/estimate. They let me know it’d only take around 2 weeks to alter and that I should schedule an appointment around that timeline. So I took my dress home and scheduled an appointment a little over 2 weeks before my bridal portraits and it worked out just fine. I had to go back to the shop to try on about 4 times in total (yes, win this about 2 weeks), but that’s because I was very particular about the bodice alterations on an open back dress. It really depends on how long they think it will take (number and complexity of changes, how many people they have on staff, etc.).

My dress is in an old bank vault at an appliance and alterations store where there is one person on staff. I was just told to leave it and she'd take a look at it.

I would definitely call. I had my first fitting this past Saturday and made a follow-up appt for a month later. I think you've given her ample time to work on your dress.
