Alterations timeline???

Dorothy, on April 28, 2019 at 8:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
When should I take my dress for alterations? Im planning to lose around another 10 pounds (im already down 20 from when I bought the dress) should I give myself the extra two weeks and finish before I take my dress for my first fitting? Or just let her hem it then do the taking in at the end? My wedding is the last Sunday in july!

I think it depends how much she’s going to have to take it in. Did you order it a little smaller assuming that you would lose weight? If she has to bring it in a lot she might need more time and multiple fittings! I would just ask the seamstress

No, I have a rather large bust that almost never changes (1" at most) regardless of how much weight i gain/lose so i had to buy my dress in the size that would accommodate my bust (back zipper) my measurements will equate to around 14 for the bust 4 for the waist and 10 for the hips. I purchased the dress in a 14... so, It may be a little more labor intensive than I originally anticipated looking at the measurements 😬 maybe I should shell out the extra to add a corset back, I wonder if that would actually make it easier on her!?!?!?!

It could be easier and it will probably be a lot more comfortable for you anyway Unless your dress already has a ton of structure a corset will give you more support! And make it easier to show off your new waistline!

I was told 3 to 4 months before wedding. You do have multiple fittings.

Call a seamstress to ask about her schedule. You don’t want to miss her busy schedule, or need to pay for rush charges. Once you get the dress fitted, maintain your weight.

I second this! You definitely have to find a seamstress and ask him or her. They have seen it all and also know what can be done according to his or her schedule.

I am taking it in May 15th to start everything. I was just concerned about possibly losing more weight or at least changes in measurements due to working out and toning up. I guess a corset back would be my best bet!
