Alterations Timeline Davids Bridal

Gina, on March 5, 2018 at 9:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Hi Ladies!

I'm getting married in September and am trying to figure out when I should call David's Bridal to set up my alterations. I know I won't need to go in until June/July, but does anyone know how early I should be calling to set up that initial appointment? I'm nervous I'll run into a situation where alterations are booked up during the heat of wedding season.

I plan to call in a few weeks, but I'd love to hear any input just to help clear up my confusion and to hear other bride's experiences and advice.

Thank you all!

I've heard horrible things about alterations at David's, especially about how over priced they are. Take your dress to a tailor/alterations shop in your area. One that specializes in formal wear. They'll do a better job and a much better price.

I bought my dress at David's and love it, but I'd never get it altered there. They are so ridiculously expensive! And depending on the seamstress, they don't do a very good job. I found a local woman to do mine, and it's going to be much cheaper and prettier in the long run. And I know it will be done right.

My wedding is April 7th ( about a month away) and I just went to Davids Bridal last Friday at 1pm to have my alterations appointment and I am scheduled to pick up dress on March 29th. As long as your within a month or two you should be fine, just call the store and ask a salesperson or speak to alterations department seperately. Now, about the cost as everyone is mentioning....well another girl was also getting her dress worked on and fixed while I was there and she was going to spend more on alterations than I was. If your dress is really fancy, big, has lots of stuff on it and you need a bussle and all that stuff, yes you will spend some money. My consultant says she has seen women pay $125-$600 depending on what you need and want done for alterations. Mines was $215, I had it hemmed, added a button closure in back, and taken in to highlight my shape more for an hourglass fit, I know I probably could of went somewhere else cheaper but I didnt want to take a risk of dress being jacked up. Davids also will steam your dress for you, that's included in price. My dress is realtively simple with some lace, and since we are doing a beach wedding, it doesnt have all the fancy beading, tulle and all that so I saved some money based on my dress. They will tell you the price before you pay and the consultant will let you know prices as you have the dress on for fitting, some things you dont have to get, if you decide to go outside DB just make sure that other store has a good reputation and knows what they are doing. I had a good experience at DB's, my alterations consultant was funny and easy going and I am excited about seeing the final results in 2.5 weeks.
