Alterations taking forever?

Aleah, on September 4, 2019 at 5:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
I bought my dress in full in June 2019, I am getting married on October 19th 2019. It fit me perfectly I just wanted some lace sleeves, they have dragged it out so long and still have not done the alterations or tried to get my measurements, they have just now ordered the materials and I’m very nervous it won’t be ready in time, I’m considering to take the dress and go somewhere else that may do it faster and get it done. They’re wanting to do 4 more fittings and I’m not doing that, they knew my date and how long they had but haven’t even begun. And don’t seem to be bothered or worried about it like I am.. I should have told them straight up and been strict I suppose but I’m not like that at all. Any suggestions?

I would start shopping for a new seamstress ASAP!!!

I mean, maybe they'll get it done, but who knows? It's way too important to be relying on maybe. You can maybe buy the materials from your current seamstress, and take them with you to a new one.

Just make sure when you're interviewing a new seamstress, that you give them a hard deadline when the dress needs to be done. I would give a date like 2 weeks before the wedding, just to be safe.

This doesn’t sound too crazy. Typically alterations don’t start until 6-8 weeks before the event due to potential weight fluctuation, so you want to get as close to the event as possible. There is time for the work to get done as long as you stay on top of them. I would go ahead and schedule those fittings, but as promptly as possible and as close together as possible to ensure that they get cracking on the work.

I had my dress custom made and it only took about 6 weeks for my dressmaker to make an entire dress. I also had lace sleeves and they did those in one week. I agree with Mcskipper that as long as you stay on them and get those fittings scheduled it should be fine. Here are pics of when my dressmaker was making the sleeves and then a week later with the sleeves done.

Find someone new ASAP there is no way to fit in 4 fittings before Oct 19th! It’s not your job as a customer to make sure they do their job.
last time I had something altered it was very complicated. Had to be taken in like 4 sizes or so and had a lot of beading and they started at immediately at 4 wks until needed and it was fine (I also gave them a deadline of 2-3 wks before needed. So I had some time) but if you don’t feel they are doing a good job/ addressing your concerns then find somewhere else.
