Alterations question

Jeanie, on August 23, 2020 at 9:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I ordered a dress online that is simply adorable and perfect and I LOVE IT. Aaaaaaand now I’ve lost like 17-20 lbs and I still love it (even more!) but it’s too big. It was $100, do I look into alterations or do I just order another dress smaller? I’m wondering what the cost of a zipper changed to a corset back usually is because that might be the solution...

Honestly I would take it to a seamstress and get an estimate on any alterations needed. It might end up being cheaper then getting another dress. Even with getting another dress you’ll probably still need some alterations to make it fit like a glove. Then it would have been $200+alterations instead of $100+ alterations

Changing from a zipper to a corset will usually cost more than $100. It would probably be better to just order a new dress in the right size & try to sell the one that’s too big online. Just make sure you are done losing weight before you order a new one!

Changing my dress to a corset was $100, but it will likely take more than just changing to a corset. My dress had to be taken in on the sides to make it fit right, which my seamstress included in the $420 I paid for hem, bustle, and corset. You could always quote alterations, but if you can buy another dress for $100 that needs no alterations that will probably be cheaper.

Can you return it still for an exchange? If so I would do that.

No I don’t think I can exchange it, I’ve had it for awhile now. I have a friend who is a seamstress so I’m going to have her see what she can do with it. If I end up ordering another one sized down at least I know it’s a legit seller... it’s also a really cute dress, I can’t imagine it being hard to sell hahaAlterations question 1
