Alterations Question - Letting "OUT"

So I got an email from DB letting me know my dress is in! My first fitting is on Tuesday!

While I should be looking forward to this, I am honestly DREADING it. I tried on a size 16 on shopping day and it was a little tight, but I figured I'd loose some weight. Well, that hasn't really happened. I haven't gained, but I haven't lost either.

I'm almost 100% sure when I try it on it's going to be TOO TIGHT. Someone told me they can't let a dress OUT, is that right?! I'm kind of freaking out here.

Not to mention my MOH tried on a size on shopping day and it fit her perfect, when she got the same size she ordered it was tight (she hasn't gained any weight). So maybe the sample dress was kind of "stretched out."

I'm going to cry if the size 16 sample I tried on was "stretched out" and my size 16 is so tight I can't zip it!

(almost in tears).

Thanks for all the responses ladies... It's really just so frustrating... In April when I bought my dress I started going to the gym 2-3 times per week, I stopped doing Starbucks 4 times per week (now maybe once every 2 weeks). I cut out fast food for the most part (used to be 2-3 times per week, now maybe once a month). And the pounds just won't come off. 5 years ago I lost 80 pounds and have since put 50 back on. I call it "Happy Fat" because I lost the 80 pounds due to severe depression. But it's not so "Happy" after all LoL.

I got my dress from David's Bridal and they let out the top and bottom . It cost $94 to let out and $120 to hem. They actually told me most of their dresses come with this side panel that'll allow them to be let out by 2 sizes.

Hi Crystal: I call it "happy fat" too. Or fat and happy stage of marriage...but yeah, soooooooo not happy after all.

I lost a bit of weight just by doing more cardio, cutting out fast food too, and drinking water.

Here's the good news, you did it before and you can do it again!!

I have actually only seriously dieted for the last two weeks and I do see results already! I tried on a size 14 BM dress today that I could not zip up a month ago.

A dress can usually be taken out a size or two. That is especially true with DB dresses, which typically have generous seam allowances for just that purpose. So if you can get it on at all (even with a lot of tugging and not breathing), it can be altered to fit.

Oh, and even if the seam allowances are not enough to enable the dress to be taken out, they can often make it fit you by putting in a corset back.

I've heard from several brides that stress made them loose weight before the wedding and their dresses were loose on them because they lost so much fast so maybe by the wedding it will fit perfect

Crystal, another thing to remember is that even if you haven't lost pounds, you might have gotten a bit more toned. the changes you've made might be causing you to gain muscle, which takes up less space for the same amount of weight. I wouldn't freak out until you try on the dress and see what happens!

Hi I have a dress with 3 layers and side stitched, slightly tight on hips and bum but not to bad, wedding in week and half, I feel I could open lining on inside, it won't be seen but can I just leave it open and not restich it just to make it more comfortable?
