Hey y’all! I’m hoping for some guidance to put some anxieties at ease. Trying to budget for my wedding dress alterations!

Here is what my stylist told me I would most likely need:
—Cups—Hemming—Bustle —Potentially taking in a bit on sides
My dress is very simple but there are at least 2 layers of material. I budgeted $500 but I’m worried it’ll be more. Is there anyone who could let me know how much I should expect? Thanks guys!!

    Hi Ally,

I purchased my dress at Davids Bridal and along with it an alterations package that was not even $200.

    Dress: https://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_scroll-lace-trumpet-wedding-dress-cwg769?mr:trackingCode=641CF4A5-75B9-E611-8102-0050569403C8&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=c&mr:adType=online&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhfGEku6c5gIV4SCtBh3mWgQBEAQYASABEgLcf_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I had a few layers of organza to cut through for height but that was included in the pricing, no side alterations. I paid maybe $40 for my bustle because since I had the alterations package any extra points would only be $2 or something like that.

I just really want to suggest that you go to a local seamstress/shop around rather than just default to the dress shop.
I paid $350 for alterations (sides taken in, dress hemmed, bustle added) at the shop I bought my dress at knowing it would be more expensive but thinking they had an interest in caring for this beautiful dress they sold me. After 3 appointments having to go downtown every time, I was still looking in the mirror and feeling like it wasn’t the dress i purchased. I got so fed up that I paid them, took my dress and went to a local shop in my suburb.
They are fixing the sleeve issue caused by taking in the sides of the dress, adding some netting so the skirt doesn’t just drop off and *actually* hemming the dress since it was left so long it’s laughable. It will cost me $115. Lesson learned: just because a shop sold a dress doesn’t make it the best place to get alterations done.
