Alterations on my wedding dress trumpet

Tonya, on July 22, 2024 at 9:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 1

My wedding dress was handmade with a bunch of beading. I went to an alteration place and she suggested to cut the dress at the trumpet where my knees are since its a mermaid like dress. If she hemmed the bottom of my dress, she will remove a beautiful pattern that is at the bottom of the dress which is why she is suggesting to cut at the knees and separate the dress in two to then bring it up and sow it back together to my appropriate height.

Separating my Dress in two is giving me so much anxiety but she said to trust her and do not panic. I contacted the lady who made my dress and told me that is the most complicated way to do it since it was made with handmade beading and to chose the easier alternative route which is hem the dress at the bottom which will mean cutting the pattern out. The pattern at the bottom brings the dress together in my opinion so I didn't really want to do that.

I am low-key kinda freaking out that she is going to separate my dress in two but she's telling me to trust her and she was so adamant about it. My wedding date is September 5th. I am scared she's going to ruin the dress since it was specially handmade designed with beading one by one. I am not a seamstress so I don't know the process so I am trying to trust her. Can someone send guidance or reassurance my way, please? Thanks!!

See if you can verify the work of the seamstress who says it will work to separate the top and bottom. It seems that the tailoring often involves taking an outfit apart and then sewing everything back together. That can sound severe but the general approach would be useful for getting the cleanest results.
