Alterations Nightmare

Sara, on June 18, 2019 at 11:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

Hi all. This is going to be lengthy, so bare with me. I figured I'd share my nightmare of a story with you. Let me preface this by saying that the only alterations I needed were a bustle, some length cut off the bottom, and a button moved.

Now, to the good part...

So, I went to this seamstress that was highly recommended, so I assumed I would get great work on my dress. Oh boy, was I wrong. My wedding is July 27th, and I dropped my dress off to her in April.

1. About 3-4 weeks pass and she calls me to tell me that she didn't get my dress done because of a family emergency. I understood because you can't predict an emergency. So, we reschedule for the next week.

2. She calls me AGAIN and tells me she needs to reschedule and not because of a family emergency, but because she didn't have the dress done yet. I have a lot of patience, and the wedding wasn't for a little bit, so I pushed it to a month.

3. She calls me AGAIN and says she needs more time. At this point, my patience is wearing very thin, so I tell her I need it done in two weeks.

4. We make an appointment, and she doesn't reschedule. Now, at this point she has had the dress for a solid two months. I eventually get there, get my dress on, and feel this burning sensation like I've been severely scratched. Low and behold, there was a pin sticking and I started bleeding pretty bad (almost on my WHITE dress). We take the dress off to get a band-aid and find that the button she was supposed to move WASN'T MOVED, and that's why I was stuck with a pin.

5. Once we get my arm cleaned up and blood free, I put the dress back on only to find out that the bustle is all messed up and crooked. Mind you, I have an under bustle, so it's not too hard of a concept. She also claimed that she steamed the dress, but it was very wrinkled.

6. My mom and I were both almost in tears at this point because now it's a month before the wedding and we don't know if this can be fixed in time. This lady has the AUDACITY to tell us that we can leave it there and she can fix it. My mom's face got beet red and she told the lady that we are taking the dress with us and aren't coming back.

7. The lady then starts to ARGUE with my mom about the dress and tells me and my mom both that we are overreacting. My mom tells her to stop arguing and that we are leaving. But, the lady continues to argue. So, my mom tells me to go back and take the dress off. The lady stops us as if we weren't allowed to go back into the dressing room. Eventually she lets us through and we go up to pay.

8. We end up paying around $250 for the shoddy work she has done and the lady tells us that she didn't charge us nearly enough for the work she has done after we finished paying.

We eventually go to this sweet old lady who fixed up my dress perfectly and I'm so lucky that everything was fixed. I hope no one else has gone through something similar. I definitely didn't need this much stress on simple alterations.

I think the thing that really irritated me the most was her unprofessional attitude.
