Alterations done twice!? (weight loss and dress is too big AGAIN!)

Diandra, on March 27, 2017 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten their dress altered only to have it redone due to continued weight loss? Was it more expensive the second time around price-wise or about the same as the initial alteration? My wedding is in 6 days and I am panicking, I go today to the same tailor who did the first round of alterations. She said she can have it done by Friday...

thanks for any feedback!

The alterations themselves shouldn't cost more. Like the cost to take the sides in on your dress, based on number of layers, embellishment, etc, would cost a certain amount. If it has to be done again, I would think it should cost the same amount, because the same type of work is involved. That said, I can think of a couple reasons you might pay more after losing weight:

1 - Maybe the first time around you only needed a little taken in, say, under your arms. Now after losing weight, you need it taken in down through the waist and hips, which had not been touched before. (Just an example.) You may have added costs if there are new areas of the dress that need to be altered this time around, that fit fine the first time around.

2 - When your dress fits looser, the hem tends to drop. Suppose it drops so much that now the bustle drags and you opt to have them move the buttons/ties to pull the bustle up higher. The tailor may charge you again for the bustle. They may also charge a labor fee for removal of the previous bustle (it's not necessarily difficult, but it can be putzy, time-consuming work). They may very well NOT charge any such fee, but just throwing it out there as a possibility.

3 - At this point in the game, so close to the wedding, there is a strong chance of a rush fee.

I hope this helps! Not trying to be a downer at all, just some things to consider. I hope everything fits great and you don't need as much work as you think. If they did a good job on it the first time, I'm sure it will turn out fabulous! Smiley winking

Thanks so much Melissa!! They're only going to charge me 65.00. 4 inches total will be taken in on each side. The hem is fone, so don't have to worry about that! I pick it up on Friday at 4pm!!! Yay!!!

Wow 8 inches! That's amazing. I'm glad they can do it.
