Alterations: Crinoline removal, Ballgown to A-line?

Dana, on May 14, 2018 at 9:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I recently purchased my dress (hooray!) and although I absolutely love it, it’s so different than what I thought I was looking for.

The fit and style are perfect, but if it’s a simple enough task I’d like to take it in for a couple alterations. Has anyone here had these things done?

1. Adding thin, “spaghetti” straps to a sweetheart neckline? I’m thinking cross-back, multiple straps - like the cut of these:

2. Removing layers of crinoline in a ballgown dress to make it more “a-line” ? I know the removal itself would be very simple, but the saleswoman suggested turning the lining into a skirt that I could slip on and off easily to change up the dress between ceremony and reception. I love this idea!

I would love to see photos of similar alterations! Cheers!

I think it should be fairly easy to add the straps and change up the skirt! It will look great!

Smiley smile Thanks for the confidence - I think so, too! I’m also comfortable spending more on alterations because I miraculously found the dress in my size, never worn, on a resale site for $500 less than retail price!

For the spaghetti straps, I actually found out that my strapless dress automatically came with a pair that hook right in. It wasn’t advertised anywhere, so I had no idea! I’d check and see if that is the case with your dress. They are going to be crossed in the back and actually look super cute!

I tried on both dresses and I liked both too! I was in the same situation where I wanted straps but I loved the ruffle skirt, and I love the top on the Rosalind gown. The consultant told me that adding straps would simple on rowena and that the layers can easily be removed so its not so puffy. Please let me know how your results are after the alteration!

Did you end up adding straps to your Rowena? What kind of material did you use and I’d love to see pictures! I’m in the same boat and loved a cross crossy back strap style of a different dress but the Rowena was perfect for me!
