Alterations cost

starsinwaves, on January 16, 2018 at 9:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 27
I know this varies widely by a million factors (location, dress structure, etc) but I’m hoping to get a ballpark figure of what I should be budgeting for alterations. Right now I have $300 and I’m wondering if that’s realistic and what I should expect when I start looking for a tailor in a few months.

I’m going to need the gown taken in, the straps shortened, a hem, and a bustle for an average-size train. Would love to hear what others paid along with the work they had done and the location.

I’m paying $535 for alterations. I did get my dress at a sample sale, so it was only $499.

My alterations were $700, which was way over what I had budgeted! That was for a bustle, hem, letting the sides out slightly, and sewing in cups.

The number of layers will make a big difference, I have not had my wedding dress alterations yet but I've had to pay 3x as much for a hem because there were 3 layers to my BM dress.

I went to a private seamstress recommended by my bridal salon. I paid 500 for: 9 point bustle, taking apart the back and making a bit smaller ( was custom made too long), and taking the boning out of the chest (the chest of the dress was literally moving away from me lol). This is in Los Angeles.

I live in nyc and bought my dress from rkbridal for 1296 and the alterations in that store cost 750 and Im
still waiting for my dress to come I ordered it December 10 and they said it would get here in April but I decide to look around my area and find a place cheaper I’m not sure how much it would cost because I’m in the process of losing weight and a lot of 35+ pounds so they might have to cut the dress or reorder a different size which the store said it would be free if I had to size down , I know for a fact that the store in kleinfeild charges 850 because that’s the first store I went to so my guess is the average price is 300 and up but keep looking area that’s what I’m doing best of luck !!

Right now my alterations are $235. That is to get it hemmed, sew in cups, and take in the bust. The bustle cost will be determined later but I’m planning on keeping it simple to keep the cost down. I’m located in Oregon.

I went to a chain store and was quoted $585. I went to a family owned bridal salon and was quoted $180 for the same alterations. It may help to check around.

I got my dress at Kleinfeld and paid $795 for alterations there. I guess their fees have gone up since 2016?

OP my dress needed to be taken in several times, hem, 11-point bustle, and I had them add cups to it.

I got my dress on sale for $1250. I'm afraid to even ask about the cost of replacing the back zipper with a tie up corset. I hear David's Bridal alterations are costly!

I would definitely try a local shop. I went into David's Bridal for my first appointment and I had to give them $320 on the spot. I will still have to pay more for a bustle if I decide to get it

As of right now my alterations bill is at $ 225.

$200 for hem, $10 to have different cups put in, $15 for one bustle.

When i originally bought the dress, i was measured for a 00 but told the smallest they can make the dress was in a size 2. The dress shop told me it could cost anywhere from $300-$600 JUST to take in the sides. The dress has a fair amount of beading and details that they would have to cut through in order to make it fit me which ultimately makes alterations a pain and more expensive. Thankfully, the dress fit like a glove (with the exception of length) and taking it in isn't an issue anymore.
