Alterations... Cost before switching dresses to the renewal dress... ?

I have a dress that I love, however - thanks to the Covid 15 (pounds) it doesn't zip. They may have to add gussets - I'll know tomorrow. How much would you spend on alterations before you saved that dress for the renewal in Spring and wore something else for the micro-wedding with 5 people?

For 5 people I would buy a cheap off the rack dress for your small ceremony.

The 5 people are us and our sons. I don't want the day they get bonus parents to be in a cheap off the rack dress. But, I might not have a choice. The dress I chose - was a really gorgeous gown. However, the hem alone is $700.
