Alterations advice - “blessed” in the chest and can’t find a bra!

Jessica, on July 21, 2019 at 8:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hi all,

I fell in love and purchased my dress a while back. It’s a deep plunge halter top and I LOVE it. I’m trying to do everything in my power to NOT cover up the plunge with the modesty panel. Problem is, I’m a 40E chest, and so my bra options are limited. I went to a specialty boutique but they didn’t have anything low enough In the front. I left with some of the bra adhesives which give me lift, but no support.

I’ve read a bunch of mixed info on sewing in cups etc. my dress has a slight underwire already built in, so I’m wondering if anyone has ever added an underwire for support? Or if fitting the dress will likely provide additional support? I have an alterations appointment soon, but I don’t want to go I’m without the proper bra if braless isn’t an option.

This is the sample, so the chest was pretty fitted (size too small), but you can see how a normal strapless won’t work. You can totally see the cups and even the bottom where the cups connect.

Something like this?! Have your seamstress sew the bra right into the dress fixing the straps to it

See I wasn’t sure that an *actual* bra could be sewn in. I’ve seen all the padding etc but that didn’t seem helpful in my case. This is a good start at least to know something similar may actually work. Ty!!

Add boning!! I’m a 32F/34DDD and that made a huge difference, but I might also have a bra sewn in. I tried the over the shoulder underwire sticky bra and it was ok, but it still showed because the sweetheart neckline is really wide cut on my dress.

I second the corset suggestion. I am a 34F. My dress was a sweetheart strapless with a corset inside. My wedding was Saturday and I didn't have any bra on or cups sewn in. I felt secure all night. The trade off is that sitting in a corset is not the most comfortable and by the end of the night (about 9 hours) I was very eager to get out of that dress.

Try finding a bra with a plunging neckline. I'm a 32F so I feel your pain on finding bras that will fit and flatter you even at specialty stores it can be hard to find.

I googling one at amazon that could help and the price isn't bad at all for bigger breasted women!

You can try something like this https://perfectsculpts.com/collections/bras/products/push-up-bra-breast-lift?variant=22893752090672. Check out their website because they have other options too. I've used their adhesive bras before and I can say they work really well. Good luck!
