Alteration nightmare

Jordan, on September 3, 2019 at 10:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I went for what was supposed to be my final fitting today. My wedding is 3 and a half months away.

Yall...there was a hole in my dress. And the hem was too short. The tulle underneath was longer than the top layer. I cried. The lady says it isn’t done and scheduled another final fitting for 2 weeks from now but I am freaking out!

An hour before the fitting she texted me that the alterations would be $600. I am mortified and there is nothing I can do about it but wait to see if it gets fixed.

If they made the alterations incorrectly, why are you being billed for the corrections? I would make an appointment now with a new seamstress the day after you get your dress completed by this one in case there are more issues. I wish you luck!

It’ll be ok hun! The scariest part is your hem. Holes are no big deal! My dress had 20 of them, you can’t even tell they were there. Her estimate seems fair for having to fix your hem being too short but it’s a sticker shock for sure.
and don’t panic, brides typically don’t even start alterations until 8 weeks from the wedding, you’re almost done and you’ve got plenty of time. ❤️

Oops saw typo! 3 weeks is still enough time to fix your dress. It’s going to be ok!

The dress was originally too long. She hemmed it too short. The tulle underneath was coming out from under the dress. This was supposed to be my final fitting and she claimed that she didn’t have time to finish because it’s so intricate. I just feel like if she needed more time she should have let me know because I was expecting a finished dress and now I’m really questioning her work.

She’s not charging for the corrections. $600 is for the alterations as a whole. The corrections are included since the dress isn’t finished yet, even though it was supposed to be done at this fitting.

Honestly you should see if a different seamstress can fit you in to fix it. There’s a lot of seamstresses in my area that specialize in fixing botched wedding dress alterations. Your dress being intricate doesn’t excuse a messed up hem. My dress had an extremely difficult hem and it still came out right so I don’t buy her excuse at all.
Hit the ground running. Read reviews and call literally anyone you like within 2 hours of you. It’s a pain but your seamstress doesn’t sound competent to fix your dress. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this so close to your wedding hun.
