Alteration disappointment

So... a few weeks ago I went in for alterations and felt really confident how my dress fit after all the pinning.

I picked it up an hour ago and it's significantly tighter. Where she pinned t prior I didn't feel like I was pouring out of it and that's how I feel now.

I payed what ended up half of my dress price for alterations and I'm embarrassed because I feel like I'm shoved into a dress that's now too small for me in the back area. The front looks perfect.

I just feel down. Is there anything I can do? Words of encouragement would be great because I'm currently a mess.

I just don't feel like I look good and that the only thing people are going to look at is my back fat.

It's a beautiful dress and you look lovely in it. I have a strapless dress too and I'm a bit worried about the same issue. I think I would speak to the seamstress asap and see what she can do

I would go back and show them. It could just be the way you are standing but I am sure they can let it out a little if it is too tight. It looks beautiful either way!

Here's something from an article in Brides:

"Brides in strapless dresses often end up with back fat or shoulder blades protruding over the back of the dress because the dress is too tight,” Ruddie explains. “You can avoid backfat by lowering the back so it creates a V-shape which is more flattering and eliminates that shelf of skin or shoulder blades protruding over the back of the dress.” Ruddie says.

Just a suggestion. Maybe you can mention it to your seamstress as an option if letting it out doesn't work. Good luck!

I love the way the front fits! Definitely bring it up asap! The first picture looks much tighter.

Take the pics to the Alterations Dept. Ask to speak to the big "Jefe." Insist that it be corrected. This is your wedding gown.

It does look tighter in the first pic. You need to bring it back maybe they can let it out a little.

If you stick your arms straight out in front of you (think Frankenstein) and have someone tuck in all the way around, and then drop your arms, it gets rid of the back cleavage. If the dress isn't uncomfortable, it probably isn't too tight. Also, undergarments make a huge difference. My dress fit all kinds of crazy until I realized that the long-line bra I had on wasn't pulled up far enough in the back.

ETA: If you let it out so much that there is no cinch to it, expect to be tugging it up all the time.

Can they let it out? My alterations made all changes necessary until I was 100% satisfied.

It was so tight it literally was cutting into me. She took more than planned off. I'm going Wednesday to see what we can do. I want it let out a little bet because breathing was uncomfortable and I felt anxious because of it. What we planned to take in would have been perfect, but she clearly took it in way too much. I'll post an update after I meet with her again.

I think it needs to be let out a little. Are you wearing the same undergarments? I work at a bridal shop and you'd be surprised how many times we have seen a fit change drastically just by undergarments or bloating. So happy to see you're taking it back and wishing you the best of luck!

Well, if that is the case, she indeed needs to fix it. One thing that can be done (that I had to have done when I got married the first time) is a swath of fabric can be cut out of the train (it makes it narrower by about 4-6" and it isn't noticeable at all, and it can be used to make gussets in the bodice.

@Breezy, also ask her if she can let out the back seams specifically which is what she initially took in based on where she pinned. If she tries to let it out on the side seams it may not support your bust as well.

It's certainly a beautiful dress on a beautiful girl, if having her let it out makes you more comfortable then at least you caught it now and can have that arranged but I think you look great and wish you the best of luck, lady. Smiley smile

Bring it back ASAP and have her let it out. Happened to me too. They just took it in too much and had to release some.
