Alteration Costs

Mrsjimenez👰, on September 3, 2020 at 3:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to see what reasonable prices were for wedding dress alterations. I just recently went to my appointment and it came out to be $950 total. My dress has alot of detail as in Alteration Costs 1Alteration Costs 2
lace, beading, and a bunch of material. I will post a picture of the dress.

What exactly do you need done? I feel like $950 is a bit much

Price depends on where you located. Contact alterations businesses in your area via Thumbtack.com or the vendor tab for the most accurate price.
Large cities charge more than small towns.

I bought a sample sale dress that was several sizes too big and needed to be altered pretty much everywhere -- straps, bodice, hem, etc. -- plus a bustle. It's got a lot of beading, lace, and several layers. $750-ish in the Cleveland, OH area.

It does seem a lot to me, I also had a lace dress that I had to have taken in, the top adjusted, straps adjusted, hemmed, lace taken off and replaced and a bustle added and it cost $250. Sounds like yours has a lot of work to be done but maybe shop around a little bit if you can.

Mine came out to be $750. Similar to you, I have a lot of lace, and I'm very short so it needs to be hemmed quite a bit. Plus straps sewn in and taken in on the sides. I thought it was a lot to pay, but honestly, I'd rather pay a lot of money on it to make sure they don't mess it up. We'll find out next week!

Holy moly that seems like a lot, did you need a lot done to it ? Mine was only $450, but I am in a small city so if you are in a larger area that could be a reasonable price.

I had a bunch done to my dress in addition to the standard hem and bustle (which was also more complicated than a standard type of bustle). It was taken in a whole size, added off the shoulder straps, added more buttons, and rearranged some lace appliqués. It cost me about $1,000, but I live in the Boston area so that definitely factored into the cost.

Price is very dependent on location, and how much needs to be done.
Looking at your dress - that sounds about right.

My alterations were $650. I'm short and needed mine hemmed a lot I'm guessing. It's a ball gown and has a lot of lace and tulle.

I was given an alterations price list when I ordered my dress. I anticipate spending the same. $950.00. Maybe a bit more. The beading definitely plays a big part.

Mine was $86 for a bustle, a belt sewn on, and the bust taken in...I paid for a special hem when I purchased my dress so I didn't have to worry about that with alterations.
