Alter backdrop

Nicole, on June 15, 2020 at 10:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
So I am getting really annoyed with wedding planning & I have about 116 days.. I keep changing everything so I’m over myself... but I do need help. which one looks better as the alter backdrop. I am trying to keep it causal as we are getting married at a brewery. I have already put a deposit down for the arch but I’m not feeling it anymore 😒 so I won’t be mad about losing 25% of my deposit... the arch doesn’t come with the greenery but I did buy some but wasn’t planning on covering it all up but then I recently saw just the taper candles & a rug/blanket & I love it for some reason...

I like the arch. It gives it more of a focal point to look at.

The arch looks best to me! I also know if I tried to do the rug I’d manage to trip 😂

Of the 2 options, the hexagon is best. The candlesticks are so low and they don’t make a significant impact. initially, I missed seeing them altogether. Also the candles wont remain lit outside. But, even if they did, I wouldn’t want my bridal gown that close to low open flames.

I also vote for the arch. The height gives you a focal point and it’s better for photos in my opinion.

Outdoor candles for more than 5 minutes, or daytime, are always a disaster. And are too low for anyone not seated in the front row to see. Most people will only see the altar area from 3 or 3.5 feet up. The arch is great, not the usual shape, and I love one that is nicely decorated framing the couple. If you do not want a greenery arch, try making a satin sleeve ( like a tube of cloth you slide over the arch frame). You can choose a pretty color against the sky, and your clothes, and attach flowers or ribbons to the cloth sleeve. Very different look from greenery, and it is so easy to use florists wire to attach silk flowers to the satin cloth. Or go bright and use a wild batik. Teens I know decorated one with florists' butterflies and birds amongst flowers. Evenings, small 5" lanterns on angles of an arch look good. So if you have an arch ordered, think of changing how you decorate it, rather than something different.

I personally love arches/arbors but there are so many variations of them and they can look really modern, cool, and minimalistic. The geometric designs made with materials that have really clean lines (finished and stained wood or copper piping for example) don't need a ton of drapery or swag to dress them up either.

I'd be worried about the stability of the candles - if you bump them or move the rug they'd probably tip over. For me, I'd stick with the arbor.

Is your wedding indoors? Have you thought about a simple chandelier or ceiling mounted installation as a focal point? That could be modern, relatively simple, and different from the standard arch/arbor.
