Already have my dress

Caitlin, on June 20, 2019 at 9:47 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

So, my wedding is over a year out..457 days to be exact.

I have already purchased my gown...it was delivered last week and i picked it up sunday.

While getting my dress i found my veil and purchased it. And while at a renn fair the day before i purchased the head piece / tiara i would be wearing for both the ceremony and possible reception.

Now i just have to hide the dress and the veil from my fiance. He actually picked out my head pieces with me.

Is this normal? Or am i just way ahead of the curve in wedding stuff?

I don't think it's recommended to buy a dress this early, but if you found the one you love, good for you!

So, I had tried on at least 12 dresses previously...

The one i picked is a discontinued fit and flare that i ABSOLUTELY love..and my mom loved it even more which is why i picked it. I technically brought my bridesmaid and fiance with me when i tried on more..only because i value his opinion of stuff most? and the dress i chose was something he said he liked..which made the decision for me.

He doesn't know which dress I chose, but knowing that he helped pick the dress helped me choose officially.

    Thank you Smiley smile

I am so happy I chose the dress I did. I put it on sunday picking it up with the veil and it was perfect...besides alterations...

I told my bridesmaids now we need to start working on the bra and shoes..but not for a few moths yet, haha.

I bought my dress even earlier than that. I think what you shouldn’t do is wait until it’s too late and you have no options, have to pay rush fees, etc.

Yeah i couldn't do that. I mean the first time we went shopping was technically 2 weeks after we got engaged? I was too excited i couldn't really wait anymore..that's not when i picked my dress but i didn't want it to be the last thing that i did. I wanted the dress to be picked and purchased since i knew my budget was tight.

Your dress is gorgeous! I don't think it was too early. I do not understand why people insist you must go by a specific set of rules when planning a wedding. You do things how you want to do them,

To be honest, the job I have we are in a slow period from after christmas until technically now..I work for contractors. Because it was so slow I had done a lot of research about everything and had started making plans.

Since then plans have changed and ideas have changed as to what we are looking for so I've taken steps slower than i did before. Plus now my fiance is helping more with ideas and designs and such. The next month-ish is gonna be hard because we are helping his mother move, and then i'm moving out of the place i'm living into the apartment with him for a brief period before we move together into our own place..but then once we are settled it's all hands on deck for 1 year out to the weddingSmiley laugh Smiley love

That's the thing. Everyone has their own lives and issues. We starting planning 2 years ago and then life happened and plans had to change. We're just now in a position to start planning again. I'd love to marry him tomorrow, but we're waiting 2 years and you better believe it'll take me those two years to plan. Not everyone is a 20-something bride that has mommy and daddy to help plan/pay for the wedding. Not everyone has thousands of dollars to drop at one time. Not everyone wants traditional. Not that there is anything wrong with any of that if that is the way people wish to do things. For example, we're almost 40. We've both been married before. We live together, have demanding full time (and then some) jobs and 3 sons who are into lots of things. It's going to take a lot of our "free" time and a lot of saving to do this in 2 years.

That is early but I think if you know that's your dress then it's ok to get all the stuff early.
It's another thing off your checklist which is always nice

    Yeah I get that.

He and I both work full time jobs. He has a son with his ex wife who, at times, can take up a lot of his time..which is fine.

We are paying for the wedding ourselves so moving into the house we are getting is going to be great because his grandmother owns it and has told us no rent (we are lucky). however when she passes (she just turned 90) we may have to move again as her 3 children (my fiances mom and her siblings) will be selling the house. So i am unsure at this point how long we will be there...but for the meantime we have a place to live and can help fix it up and then be able to put money aside either for our own place or for the wedding.

Well, the dress was a discontinued dress. the veil was a discontinued veil (i'm sensing a trend here) and the head piece the renn faire only happens once a year and since this is the faire we have both been involved with for many years i wanted to make sure i got it there, rather than another somewhere else.

I did it about that far out. Everyone kept saying not to but I don't see why not if we know what we want.

So buying my dress was the first thing I did because my FH and I love to thrift shop and since we got engaged I used to joke with him by pulling out the really dated huge dresses from the resale rack and try it on for his opinion. After doing that for a month I tried one on and we actually fell in love with it. So now that's my dress. I am also using my mom's veil and headpiece and my bridesmaid is making me custom kicks so I don't think it's weird but then again I'm weird.

No see? that's not weird at all.

Out of everyone's opinion i wanted his the most which is why before i made the swap from my former dress to this one i made him come with me to look at a few more. out of all the dresses i had tried on previously to this one..he really liked this one. he doesn't know which one i bought, though im sure he can guess as i've been really excited about it..but he's a guy so he just knows im really excited about the whole wedding planning and wedding itself.

I bought my dress extremely early but I fell in love and didn't want to wait! I also bought the veil, head piece, and jewelry when I bought my dress and now have changed my mind about the head piece and jewelry because my colors are wine and gold and my accessories are silver so I would wait on that if I were you.

So my head piece is a renn faire tiara that has a red gem in the center with a silver band around my head..our colors are marine blue and apple red so the red matches. I haven't settled on jewelry yet because i believe i am wearing things from my mom? the veil she picked out and i found it in store again when i picked up my dress sunday so that's been purchased. The tiara I won't change my mind on because it goes with the theme of the wedding and it isn't a normal tiara which i like
