Alphabetical Seating Chart?

T2018, on December 11, 2017 at 10:19 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 21

So the business I purchased our table numbers, guest book sign, social media sign and cards and gifts sign from has a matching seating chart. But instead of table by table, it's alphabetical. Has anyone ever seen a seating chart like this? I'm feeling indifferent about it.

ETA: It's hard to see, but it goes like

Adams, David 6

Andrews, Emily 9

Etc.

It really should be alphabetical so that people can find their names easier. It is a pain in the ass looking at every single table to find your name.

Alphabetical order makes finding your name easier if there's a big guest list. Smaller number of guests? Do whatever on the seating chart that you prefer.

It is so much easier to find your table by last name. They did a great job.

We're looking at about 120. If this will make it easier, then I will definitely go this route.

My friend made this type of chart for her wedding and wrote the names on a mirror, it was so easy finding our assigned seat and the mirror was beautiful

Thanks so much! I'm glad to know that this isn't odd, (I've just never seen an alphabetical one personally) and I'm especially excited because it's so pretty! I appreciate the feedback!

My venue recommended doing it this way as it makes it easier for guests to find their name/table. I had never heard of doing it this way but I am absolutely going this route for our seating chart.

I've actually never thought about doing this but it's a brilliant idea. I don't know why more people don't do this! It's so painfully awkward standing for so long, trying to find your name within a list of 200+ people! lol

@Peggy I agree, every wedding I've been to has had random place cards scattered in no sort of order, or grouped by table. I'd never even thought of doing alphabetical, now I'm super excited for it!

Alphabetical is so much easier. I went to a wedding where they had cards sorted by table numbers, it was a rather large wedding with a average sized seating chart, and 25-50 people at a time were crowded around it trying to figure out what table they were at.

    Alphabetical order is standard.

I'm pretty sure our table tents were alphabetical too so people could find their name. I'm not sure I've ever seen it done by table.

@MrsMPhil Yikes! We will most definitely be avoiding that! So glad I asked! I almost passed up this gorgeous seating chart like a dummy!!

Definitely not weird. My venue even asked that we do ours alphabetically because it's always a crowded mess when sorted by number!

I've been to weddings where it's by table and it can be really hard to find your name and it causes a bottleneck at the entrance. Alphabetical is really smart

It needs to be alphabetical so your guests don't have to spend 10 minutes looking through every table for their name. And while we're at it, don't let your venue place it at the absolute entrance to the venue so there is a giant bottleneck.....

It's really pretty, by the way!

My FSIL had this at her wedding and I LOVED it. Sooo much easier to find my name rather than scanning through every table. I never understood why I see so many signs ordering it by table rather than by name. I'll be doing it this way when I order. Smiley smile

I like it. I'm going to break them down by table and put them alphabetically that way. Hopefully it will be easy. I really like yours though!
