Almost fainting at alteration appointment!

FinallyMrs.A, on July 19, 2017 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Yesterday was my first alt appt and I was super excited to get to see my dress ( I didn't eat much day of...) I went to the appointment and got into my dress the seamstress began pinning my dress. I said it felt too tight near my ribs and that I felt constricted when breathing. She told me that's normal and that I would be fine ... an hour into the appointment I told her I felt like I was going to pass out and she told me to sit down, she said locking your knees can do this. I took a good deep breath and all the pins bent or popped out! ( I told her it was too tight!). She told me that she will not pin it so tight around the ribs then my mom went to the car to get me a snack, as the appt went on I kept getting dizzier and could only stand for a minute or two before having to sit down. This is apparently common however I am terrified of it happening on my wedding day!!!!!

Don't forget to eat and drink plenty of fluids!!! Orange juice always helps me when I feel dizzy!

This makes me think of when women used to wear corsets under dresses and pass out all the time. Just make sure you eat a good breakfast on your wedding day and don't forget to hydrate!

Most wedding dresses are a lot of layers and fabric and you will be hot. That is why it is important to make sure to eat enough and stay hydrated on your wedding day. Excitement and nerves can cause havoc with your tummy but you need to take care of yourself.

I've heard of this happening to brides at the alter! Adding "don't lock your knees" onto the mile long list of things to remember on my wedding day.

Definitely make sure you eat and hydrate! My friend almost passed out at her reception because she was too busy talking to people...don't do this!!

I was at a wedding once where the bride fainted at the alter during the ceremony. I felt so bad for her because she was so embarrassed. Like PP's said, remember to eat that day, drink water, and focus on your breathing. And relax your knees when you are standing, don't lock them out!

This is good advice, but why was your appointment so long? No alteration appointment should take more than a few minutes.

Thank you all so much for your advice! I will have to schedule food into that day (as if there isn't enough to worry about ) since I'm the bride and wedding planner at the same time! I think I will have my bridesmaids have a stash of snacks and juice boxes for that day so I can just give them a signal or something! It was so scary and embarrassing the seamstress didn't seem very happy with me but I'd rather sit down versus be carried out.

ps. I paid $500 for alterations... that seems high to me :/

    Depends what the alterations were.
