Malka, on July 27, 2022 at 1:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
So hi im a second yr nursing student I told my fiancee not to do a ring cause of the feel of when I deal with patients it will fall off but when I show people my necklace they think it's weird did I have a valid point or was it unreasonable

I'm not a nurse, nor am I a nursing student, but this actually seems like a very sensible solution to not being able to wear your ring(s) at work. My SIL is a nurse and I don't think I've ever seen her metal rings (though I know she has them), just a silicone ring, because she can't wear the others to work.

Honestly, it's not just falling off - it could get caught in your gloves and accidentally be thrown out, it could tear your gloves which would leave you open to exposures, or any number of other things. If someone says something to you, you say "I'm very happy with my non-traditional necklace. It's something I can wear to work, and that's important to me." Don't engage beyond that.

Trauma nurse here. I always wear my stone ring out of personal desire. Mind you, I complete all patient care with gloves, sometimes doubled depending on the task and then always wash my hands or sanitize afterwards. When I first started wearing my ring, I had a hard time learning how to put gloves on. Over time, it’s become super easy and I don’t have to think about it.
I would guess about half my coworkers wear metal rings with stones and the other half wear silicone bands. I’ll admit, the silicone is super easy to clean in comparison. Depending on the metal of your band, there is risk of the hand sanitizer wearing it down after time- again depending on how often you’re using it.
Since you’re in nursing school, I would follow their guidelines and then once you get out into the world of nursing, I’d follow your hospital/clinic’s policies. Good luck! Nursing school is tough but not impossible.

I forgot to mention a couple things. My ring doesn’t have small stones so I feel it’s easier to clean and keep clean. I would suggest a ring that has many crevices around many stones (think halo or band with stones) should probably not be worn for hygiene.
The other thing I’d think about is how well your band fits on your finger. If it’s snug, there’s a much lower risk of it coming off in a glove. However, if you have/prefer a looser band, that risk goes up. I like mine snug so I don’t worry about it passing over my knuckle easily.

I think a lot of people forget (or choose to ignore) that YOU are the one wearing something, so YOU should be the one who likes it. I've heard plenty of people's fiancés say "well I like this," or "my mom likes that," and while the person proposing is usually the one choosing/ paying for the item, the one receiving it is the one who will be wearing it, so it should be tailored to their preferences. If what you liked was a necklace, then that's perfectly fine Smiley smile
