Alcoholic drinks for a brunch reception

LMM1117, on June 12, 2018 at 4:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hey y'all! So I need to start by saying that neither of our families are huge drinkers so we are only going to have three or four alcoholic options (I'm leaning toward three). I'd like y'all's opinion though as if you were a guest!

The two drinks that will be there no matter what are mimosas and red wine sangria. For the beer--I am a bit of a beer snob. haha. I like brown ales, stouts, and IPAs so I refuse to have Bud Light. However, not everyone has the same taste so I was thinking I'd get a keg of something "easy" like a wheat beer. My fiance has Mexican heritage so he's thinking maybe a cerveza (for example: Modelo) which I'm not against at all! It wouldn't be a big deal to do a wheat as well as a cerveza but the thing is that our reception is only two and a half hours long (12:30-3). I just don't think we'll need that much alcohol so I was thinking of only one type of beer. Thoughts?

I would just do 1 or get 2 different 1/2 kegs if you are really split on a decision.

I would do 2, but don't get full sized kegs. Or just buy several cases of both! That way if you have leftover, you can just take it home. Kegs are such a pain to transport after an event. That way if you do something like an IPA, people who don't prefer that taste will have something a little more mild, but don't have to drink the fruity drinks (I.E. men).

I'd get 2 types of beer and a red and white wine option. It's not about how much people drink, it's about a range of options to please your guests.

I think just the one beer would be fine. The wheat or modelo are good options since that is what most people would enjoy.

I’d probably offer two types of beer but not get a full keg of either, and instead just some cases.

i also think something like modelo is universally palatable enough that that can be your “easy” beer if you’d prefer the second to be more up your alley (like a brown or an ipa)

Bloody Mary's would be a good addition, I think.

I agree with the wheat beer, that's a good suggestion. I've noticed Blue Moon is a good alternative too, because more craft beer drinkers will still drink it if it's offered, but your Budweiser/Coors guys will also drink it. I think 2 types is beer is a great option, especially if they are so different. Another option could be bloody marys too, instead of one of the 4.

Unless a lot of your guests like craft beer, I would maybe only get a 6 pack of that for you and FH to share. Unless you have the taste for IPAs etc, they are hard to drink. My hubby loves them, but they gross me out. One beer we both agree on/ like is Hoegaarden- I think it's a wheat beer. Maybe something like that? Or maybe Sam Adams or Paulaner?

I'd do a cabernet or a merlot as your red and probably a Chardonnay that's not to dry as your white (trying to appeal to the most guests should be the goal)

In addition to the beer and wine I would offer a traditional brunchy cocktail like a Mimosa, a Bloody Mary or a Bellini.

I thought about Bloody Mary's but the mix is more than I wanted to spend when it comes to buying in bulk (I'm picky and only like Zing Zang haha). My family loves mimosas and sangria and his family loves sangria and beer so that's why we chose to do the three. I originally planned to do red and white wine options but thought since we are having a daytime wedding we would do lighter/fun drinks. I looked at our guest list and literally everyone likes at least two of those three options so we're skipping the wine idea (we only have 65 adults attending--just family and our closest friends). I'll look around for half kegs but I like the idea of just buying a few cases too! I was afraid it would be a hassle but I suppose if there are leftovers those would obviously last longer than a keg. haha

Thank you, ladies!! I appreciate the feedback and ideas!
