Alcoholic Beverages

Anyone else plan on not serving hard liquor? This is a renewal ceremony for our 25th Anniversary and we aren't drinkers. Plan on serving wine and spritzer along with punch. I really don't want to be responsible for anyone who might end up drinking and driving. Any idea on how to let my guest know or show this even be something discussed?

We got married at a winery so there was no liquor license to serve liquor. We had wine and beer and it was fine. We put it on our FAQ page on our wedding website but I don’t think it’s completely necessary to warn people in advance.

We're only serving beer & wine and we're providing it ourselves! So we're in complete control of how much we start the evening with, and once it's out, it's out. Not trying to give anyone the opportunity to get completely wasted lol. The only thing I've put in our FAQs is "will there be food and drinks?" and I said "yes there will be (food option). Beer & wine will also be available for cocktail hour and the reception."

I don’t think you need to announce what beverages are being served. It shouldn’t make a difference either way to your guests. I also want to point out that people can get just as drunk on beer and wine, so if that’s what their goal is, that is what will happen. It’s your 25th anniversary. Clearly you’re not college age kids getting married who are fresh out of the frat party scene. You should be able to trust your guests to not drink and drive, and to not get sloppy drunk. If there is a specific individual who is a concern, I would address them privately.

I think thats a great idea! we are only doing beer wine and champagne. we went back and forth for a while about it but on one hand we really cant afford it. and other other we are inviting and hosting children. I can't condone adults getting completely obliterate around children on my own dime.

We are doing our 20th renewal and we aren't drinkers either. I am planning on having wine and mimosa's. I don't think its necessary to let people know ahead of time.

If people want to drink & drive, they will with beer & wine so that won't stop that. That being said, I think it's totally fine to just serve beer & wine and it's common and not necessary to tell guests in advance.

If you just offer wine (or wine & beer), that’s fine and you certainly don’t need to tell guests ahead of time.

We has a premium open bar at our DW (15 guests), but only beer & wine at our local reception because it was at a winery and those were the liquor laws. Nobody had an issue with it.

We did have one signature drink which was gone by night's end but the rest was wine and beer. Our guests were very happy with the offerings. We wanted to avoid anything that could be used for shots and it worked really well.
