Alcohol/Bartender Insurance Questions

Trish, on January 7, 2015 at 10:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

We are having a semi outdoor wedding at a privately owned camp. The camp owner says that we may absolutely bring in our own alcohol as long as we have liability insurance. Working as a bartender, I have several people in mind to serve as the bartender for the wedding. Can I pay whomever I want to serve my alcohol? Do they have to be individually insured or can we buy the insurance ourselves? I read somewhere that our parents can add it to their home insurance for a very low fee.

Basically, I just want to know if I can do this myself without having to go through a catering company and pay a tremendous fee.

I would call the city hall to ask. I do not know these answers. Good luck!

You should call your state's ABC board for advice.

Everything varies state to state, so you really need to call your state's liquor control board and an insurance carrier. In my opinion, the bartender should have their own policy protecting them and you should have something protecting yourself as well. Today if you say Sue, more people think Lawyer than Johnny Cash, ya know?

We are required to provide one day liability insurance to our venue for $1 million anyway, we are doing the bar similarly to you and added another million to the liability insurance. It is ok to do this in CA but, check with your local ABC.
